Firewalls in Lucent CM | |||

This topic shows how to configure firewalls at the data center and at the enterprise location.
Firewalls at the data center are needed to permit communication between the Lucent CM servers and call servers. Data center can be a service provider data center or an enterprise data center (for enterprise deployments)
Firewalls at the enterprise location are needed to permit Lucent CM service to the enterprise.
Firewall locations in a Lucent CM configuration. This is a simplified architecture to show the firewall locations and does not show a standard Lucent CM deployment:
The administration firewall and internal firewall can be combined in single firewall.
Firewalls contain sets of rules that can be applied to packets traversing that firewall. The firewall uses information in the packet's IP and Transmission Control Protocol/User Datagram Protocol (TCP/UDP) header to find out whether a rule applies to a packet (rule matching). Each rule contains an action of either drop or pass. When a packet matches a rule then the action is applied to that packet. The rules show the action of passing packets that match that rule. It is assumed that the firewall default rule is to drop the packet unless the packet matches any firewall rule.
