Network bay frames

Overview

These arrangements meet network equipment-building system (NEBS) central office requirements for bay heat dissipation. If typical arrangements are not used, normal heat flow could be interrupted and adversely affect shelf operation. Fan units must be used to guarantee proper air circulation.

Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX can be mounted in frames of both 23-inch and 19-inch widths. 23-inch wide frames available through Alcatel-Lucent include the ED8C800 (for rear mounting) and the ED8C801 (for front mounting).

Bay arrangements

A standard 7-foot bay arrangement may contain up to four Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX. When a bay frame is fully equipped with four Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX shelves, a 0.515-inch space must remain open at the bottom of the rack to allow for proper air circulation. Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX shelves should be installed from bottom to top. This arrangement is configured for rear access cabling.

Important!

The High-Capacity shelf uses an integral fan unit that comes attached to the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX High-Capacity shelf on the bottom of the shelf. The heat baffle is located at the top of the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX High-Capacity shelf.

The figure below shows a typical bay arrangement using the High-Capacity Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX shelf.

Note:

When using the High-Capacity Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX shelf, 4 shelves can fit in a bay with a fuse panel. The Fan Unit is an integral part of the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX High-Capacity shelf.

Fan unit

Fan units are required (in all environments) to guarantee proper air circulation. The Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX High-Capacity shelf includes an integral fan unit.

Fan filters

The fan unit is equipped with a fan filter. To keep the fan unit operating properly, it is recommended that users routinely change the fan filter every 6 to 9 months.

Adding shelves

Shelves can be added incrementally by local technicians (since all cabling is connectorized) if interbay cabling is initially provided for the bay layout. If shelves are incrementally installed, it is recommended that they be installed from bottom to top to simplify bay mult cabling. However, shelves may be added in any position if proper bay mult cabling is selected.

If a shelf is added above existing non-Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX equipment one heat baffle (848862181) must be installed between the shelf and the existing equipment.
