Use this procedure to perform an Ethernet loopback transmission test. It is assumed that the Ethernet packet ring or point-to-point service has been configured using the procedures in this chapter.
Important!
The Port Maintenance parameter for the affected ports must be provisioned Allow to perform this procedure. If the Port Maintenance parameter for the affected ports is provisioned Inhibit, loopback commands for the affected ports are denied.
To view and provision the Port Maintenance parameter, a Privileged user must perform Procedure 7-23: Allow/inhibit port/tributary maintenance.
Important!
The following rules apply for this test:
Only one loopback is allowed on any one port in a multipoint packet ring, even if they are on different nodes
Prior to performing this procedure, refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter and you must have complete work instructions for this procedure that detail:
You must have an Ethernet test set capable of applying the external test signal required for this procedure.
Use the following procedure to perform the loopback test:
1 |
Use the WaveStar® CIT to log in to the near end Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX shelf. Reference: Procedure 14-2: Connect Personal Computer (PC) and establish WaveStar® CIT session |
2 |
Review the following test set considerations:
|
3 |
For the circuit being tested, perform a terminal/facility loopback at the far-end node port. Select Fault → Analysis → Loopback from the System View menu at the far-end node. Expand the circuit pack details, select the port, then click Select at the bottom of the screen. |
4 |
Verify the port AID, then select Operate. Click on Apply at the bottom of the window. Read the warning message, then click Yes to operate the command. |
5 |
Connect the near end port to the Ethernet test set and start sending traffic. |
6 |
Verify traffic is being received at the source node Ethernet test set. |
7 |
Use the Fault → Analysis → Loopback command to release the loopback. Repeat this procedure for all circuits being tested. End of steps |
