Procedure 7-16: Provision/enable/disable the NE as a TL1 TCP/IP GNE

- Overview

Use this procedure to provision, enable, or disable the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX as a TL1 TCP/IP GNE.

- Privilege level

You must login as a Privileged user to complete this procedure.

- Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure:

  1. Refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter.

  2. Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.

  3. If the GNE is connected to the IP WAN via an IAO LAN interface, complete Procedure 7-15: Provision TCP/IP and Proxy ARP on an IAO LAN port to provision and enable TCP/IP for the selected LAN port. If the GNE is connected to the IP WAN through another vendor's network element using an IP over DCC link, complete Procedure 6-4: Provision DCC terminations and Procedure 7-17: Provision static IP routes on DCC links to enable IP over DCC and specify the static IP routes on the selected DCC port.

  4. Verify that the work instructions specify the LAN port to be provisioned.

  5. Verify that the work instructions specify the IP calling addresses, host names (optional), and host types for the OS hosts which will be allowed access to the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX TL1 TCP/IP GNE.

  6. Using office records, verify that the network element has the latest software release (recommended).

Steps

Perform the following steps to complete this procedure.

1

From the System View menu, select Administration → Data Communications.

Result:

The Data Communications window opens.

2

In the Data Communications window, click on the TCP/IP tab.

Result:

The TCP/IP parameters display.

3

Verify that TCP/IP is properly provisioned and enabled for the required LAN port or DCC port. If TCP/IP is enabled for a DCC port, verify that the IP static route is provisioned on the selected DCC port.

Reference:

4

In the Data Communications window, click on the TCP/IP Gateway tab.

Result:

The TCP/IP Gateway parameters display.

5

Enable or Disable the TCP/IP Gateway Function as required.

6

From your work instructions, determine which IP calling addresses will be allowed to access the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX TL1 TCP/IP GNE.

7

Important!

Changes to an existing IP map entry (OS Host IP address, OS Host Name or OS Type) will not impact any existing connections to the corresponding OS. For example, if an OS Host IP address is removed from the table, and a connection to that OS is currently present, that connection is maintained until the user manually terminates the connection.

Use the instructions on the screen to add, modify, or delete a gateway host from the TCP/IP Gateway Host List.

The following parameters apply:

  • The Host IP address is four dot-separated decimal numbers, each ranging from 0 to 255.

  • The Host Name may consist of 1 to 24 alpha-numeric characters (optional field)

  • The Host OS Type may consist of standard types or listed as other.

Repeat this step for each of the Host IP addresses you want to authorize for access to the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX TL1 TCP/IP GNE. There may be up to 20 provisioned entries in the list.

8

Click Apply at the bottom of the window.

Result:

A warning window opens and asks if you want to execute this command.

9

Click Yes to execute the command, then click Close to exit window, if desired.

10

Repeat this procedure for each TL1 TCP/IP GNE to be modified, enabled, or disabled.
