Procedure 4-5.2: Change pre Release 3.0 unprotected application to 0x1S1 or 0x1S2 application (Main slots not equipped with Very Large Fabric circuit packs)

- Overview

Use this procedure to change an existing unprotected 1+1, Bidirectional 1+1, or UPSR application to an 0x1S1 or 0x1S2 application when the Main slots are not equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW84 or LNW141 OLIU circuit packs.

This procedure allows you to change an existing unprotected application, implemented using prescribed methods prior to Release 3.0, to an 0x1S1 or 0x1S2 application.

- Before you begin

Existing 1+1, Bidirectional 1+1, or UPSR applications may be changed to 0x1S1 or 0x1S2 applications if the following conditions are met:

  • There are no cross-connections to UPSR ring channels. Cross-connections on 0x1Sn ports are provisioned only with channel aids.

  • There are no unswitched cross-connections on UPSR ports. Unswitched cross-connections are not supported on 0x1Sn ports.

  • Service for all provisioned cross-connections on the port(s) is carried on the port in slot n.

Steps

Complete the following steps to change provisioning for the required port.

1

From the System View window, select Configuration → Equipment.

Result:

The Configure Equipment window opens.

2

Find the low-speed OLIU circuit pack with the port being provisioned, then expand the equipment list by clicking on the plus (+) sign next to the low-speed OLIU circuit pack.

3

Click (highlight) the OLIU port being provisioned, then click Select at the bottom of the window.

Result:

The port parameters display on the right side of the window.

4

Provision the Application parameter according to the work instructions. Select 0x1S1 for a port in slot 1 or 0x1S2 for a port in slot 2.

5

Provision the Port Monitoring Mode parameter as AUTO.

6

Click Apply and Close.

Important!

If a companion port is equipped for the port being provisioned, the port state for the companion port is automatically set to Not Monitored (NMON) and is not provisionable. The inactive companion port, if equipped, transmits the system idle signal (STS UNEQ-P or AIS-P) on all tributaries.

7

If required, repeat this procedure to change the provisioning for other low-speed optical ports.
