Procedure 4-10: Provision DS1/E1 circuit packs/ports for service

Overview

Use this procedure to provision DS1/E1 circuit packs/ports for service.

Privilege level

You must log in as a Privileged or General user to complete this procedure.

Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure:

Refer to Required equipment and Before you begin in this chapter.
Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.
Verify that the work instructions specify the circuit pack/port addresses and the parameters/values to be provisioned.
Ensure the circuit pack(s) is installed.

Steps

Complete the following steps to provision a DS1/E1 circuit packs/ports for service.


1	From the System View window, click the Alarm List button to verify that no alarms, loopbacks, protection switch lockouts, or protection switches are present for the ports on the circuit packs to be provisioned. Result: The NE Alarm List appears.
2	From the System View menu, select Configuration → Equipment. Result: The Configure Equipment window opens.
3	Find and highlight the DS1/E1 circuit pack being provisioned, then click Select at the bottom of the window. Result: The circuit pack parameters appear.
4	Important! All ports on the LNW8 and LNW801 56DS1/E1 circuit packs are provisioned for either DS1 or E1; DS1 and E1 ports cannot be mixed on a single circuit pack. Provision the required circuit pack parameters according to the work instructions, then click Apply if changes were made. If no changes were made, go to the next step. Result: A dialog box appears asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes to apply the changes.
5	Click Close to exit or continue with the next step to provision ports.
6	Find the circuit pack with the ports being provisioned, then expand the equipment list by clicking on the plus (+) signs.
7	Click (highlight) the DS1/E1 port being provisioned, then click Select at the bottom of the window. Result: The port parameters appear.
8	Select and provision the required port parameters, according to the work instructions. Important! If connecting to any DLC terminal, then select Yes for the Bi-Polar Violations (BPV) parameter.
9	Important! The parameter settings may be applied to the selected port only or all ports on the circuit pack. Select This Port or All Ports, This Pack in the Apply to: field according to the work instructions.
10	Click Apply to make provisioning changes. If no changes were made, continue with the next step. Result: If All Ports, This Pack was selected in the Apply to: field, a dialog box appears asking if you want to apply all parameter settings on the screen. Click Yes or No as required. A dialog box may appear asking you to confirm executing this command. Verify that you are provisioning the correct port(s), then click Yes to apply your changes.
11	If required, repeat this procedure to provision another DS1/E1 circuit pack/port. End of steps
