Use this procedure to:
Assigning an acid to a serial port determines the TL1 autonomous message types to be output by the local network element (NE), and any TL1-RNEs (remote NEs) accessed through that serial port.
Important!
Changing the serial port parameters may affect access to the serial port. Changing settings for the front RS232 CIT (cit-1) port may affect WaveStar® CIT local access. Changing settings for the MODEM (cit-2) port may affect modem communications, if applicable.
An Administration, General, Maintenance, or Reports Only user may provision a serial port only if they are logged in to that serial port. A Privileged user may provision a serial port while logged in to that serial port or while not logged in to that serial port.
Important!
Changing the baud rate on the serial port requires that you first change the baud rate on the NE before changing the baud rate of the COM port on the PC.
Prior to performing this procedure:
Refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter.
Perform the following steps to provision the serial ports.
1 |
From the System View menu, select Administration → Data Communications. Result: The Data Communications parameters window opens. |
2 |
Select the Serial Port tab. Result: The Serial Port parameters appear. |
3 |
Select the CIT Port (cit-1 or cit-2) you want to provision. Important! Changing the serial port parameters may affect access to the serial port. |
4 |
Note the Access State of the selected CIT Port. If the Access State is In Service you may continue to provision accessible parameters for the serial port. If the Access State is Lockout, only a Privileged user may provision the parameters at this time. An Access State of Lockout indicates that login access to all ports has been locked out except for Privileged users. Administration → Security → Enable Lockout Security State Administration → Security → Disable Lockout Security State Reference: Procedure 7-3: Edit, delete, or enter a user's login |
5 |
Provision the Serial Port Parameters as required.
|
6 |
In the Apply To box, select This CIT Port only if the changes only apply to the selected port. Or, select Both CIT Ports to apply the changes to both cit-1 and cit-2. |
7 |
Click Apply at bottom of the window, read the warning message, then click Yes to execute the command. Important! If you changed the baud rate setting, you will be logged off the system and the system view will close. Changing the OS Type on a port logs out any active user on the port. Other serial port provisioning takes effect at the current session only after a command is sent to the NE. Click on the Alarm List button from the System View menu to send a command to the NE. |
8 |
If you changed the CIT baud rate setting, you must now change the COM port baud rate setting for the WaveStar® CIT. From the WaveStar® CIT network view, select Administration → Serial COM Selection. |
9 |
Select the serial port (COM-1 or COM-2) and Baud Rate setting used for serial communication. Click OK to change the setting. Important! The baud rate setting must be the same as the NE CIT port setting. End of steps |
