Procedure 11-40.3: Move RPL/RPL Owner node

- Overview

Use this procedure to move a RPL/RPL Owner to another node.

Step

1

Login to one of the nodes in the ERP.

2

Make sure that the ring is in the idle state.

From the Navigation menu, select View → Data → ERP. Select the circuit pack associated with the ERP.

TL1 command: rtrv-erp.

In the ERP display, verify that the ERP Instance State is ENRB (No Request (RPL blocked).

Note the VLAN ID and Maintenance Level.

3

Login to the node with the link that will be the new RPL.

Shut down the ERP link that will be the new RPL. From the System View, select Configuration → Equipment. Expand the circuit pack details.

  • For an Ethernet (LAN) port, highlight and Select the port.

From the Port Data tab, set Port Administration Control to DISABLE, then click Apply. Click Close.

  • For a VCG port, expand the VCG details.

Set VCG Membership to Disabled for both Input and Output Direction.

In the Apply To: drop-down box, select All Tributaries, This VCG.

    Click Apply, then click Close.

Result:

The node signals SF and unblocks the ring protection link (RPL).

4

Login to the existing RPL Owner node.

5

From the System View menu, select Configuration → Data → Create/Modify/Delete ERP. Select the LNW70/170 with the ports associated with the ERP.

Result:

The ERP configuration screen displays.

6

Make the existing RPL port not be the RPL.

In the RPL ID drop-down box, remove the port AID. Click Apply, then click Close.

7

Login to the node that is the new RPL Owner.

8

From the System View menu, select Configuration → Data → Create/Modify/Delete ERP. Select the LNW70/170 with the ports associated with the ERP.

Result:

The ERP configuration screen displays.

9

Designate the port for the new Ring Protection Link (RPL) for the ring. This command also makes this node the RPL Owner.

In the RPL ID drop-down box, enter the port AID for the new RPL.

As required, configure the Wait-to-Restore (WTR) time for the ERP.

The WTR time is the length of time after a failure recovers before the ERP reverts to the default configuration (with the RPL blocked). WTR may only be provisioned at the RPL Owner node. The ITU-T G.8032 standard requires the WTR time to be from 5 to 12 minutes.

Click Apply, then click Close.

10

Enable the new RPL link.

From the System View, select Configuration → Equipment. Expand the circuit pack details.

  • For an Ethernet (LAN) port, highlight and Select the port that was disabled.

From the Port Data tab, set Port Administration Control to ENABLE, then click Apply. Click Close.

  • For a VCG port, expand the VCG details.

Set VCG Membership to Enabled for both Input and Output Direction.

In the Apply To: drop-down box, select All Tributaries, This VCG.

    Click Apply, then click Close.
