Use this procedure to install the VLNC33 3-Port 100 Optical Fast Ethernet Port Expander circuit pack.
The VLNC33 circuit pack is supported in the C slot of a shelf equipped with a VLNC42B circuit pack in Main slot 2. The VLNC33 circuit pack is not supported if any other circuit packs are equipped.
You must log in as a Privileged, General, Maintenance, or Reports Only user to complete this procedure.
Refer to the list of Class 1 SFP transceivers that are approved by Alcatel-Lucent in Procedure 4-3: Install pluggable transmission modules.
Refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS-5) Installation and System Turn-Up Guide, as required, when removing and/or installing pluggable transmission modules.
Prior to performing this procedure:
Refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter.
Refer to Laser safety and Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.
Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.
Ensure that the VLNC33 circuit pack is available for installation.
If required, ensure that correct pluggable transmission modules are available for installation in the VLNC33 circuit pack.

Important! Signal performances may be degraded if the connections and couplings are not cleaned properly. Ensure all optical fiber connectors and couplings are properly cleaned, if required. Reference: Procedure 14-3: Clean optical fibers, dual LC adapters and LC lightguide buildouts (LBOs) |
2 |
Important! Pluggable transmission modules are shipped with a dust plug installed into the optical ports to maintain cleanliness during storage and/or transportation. It is recommended that the dust plug be kept in place to maintain cleanliness until the optical fiber is connected. With proper care and handling, cleaning the pluggable transmission modules should not be necessary. If required, clean any pluggable transmission modules being used. Reference: Procedure 14-19: Clean pluggable transmission module |

Secure the circuit pack in the shelf using the latch lever. Result: The VLNC33 circuit pack is a dumb circuit pack that serves as an extension of the VLNC42B circuit pack. The VLNC33 circuit pack provides the VLNC42B circuit pack with three additional optical Fast Ethernet ports. |

If required, install pluggable transmission modules. Reference: Procedure 4-3: Install pluggable transmission modules |

Important! The VLNC33 circuit pack is not an addressable entity. The optical Fast Ethernet ports on the VLNC33 circuit pack are addressable through VLNC42B circuit pack. The optical Fast Ethernet ports are addressed through VLNC42B circuit pack as d{2}-{5-7}. If required at this time, provision the optical Fast Ethernet ports. Reference: For a detailed description of the Web-based GUI used to interface with the VLNC42B circuit pack and general information about using the Web-based GUI, refer to Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS-5) CLI User Provisioning Guide. For a detailed description of the Command Line Interface (CLI) messages used to interface with the VLNC42B circuit pack, and general information about using the Command Line Interface (CLI), refer to Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS-5) Command Line Interface Guide.
