Procedure 8-9: View optical pluggable transmission module Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) parameters

- Overview

Use this procedure to view the Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM) monitoring parameters for optical pluggable transmission modules.

Digital Diagnostic Monitoring is implemented on all optical TDM and Ethernet pluggable transmission modules on the VLNC35 and VLNC5x circuit packs.

Important!

Electrical pluggable transmission modules do not support Digital Diagnostics Monitoring.

- Privilege level

You must log in as a Privileged, General, Maintenance or Reports Only user to view Digital Diagnostic Monitoring parameters.

DDM monitoring parameters

The following DDM monitoring parameters are supported.

  • Laser Bias Current (milliamperes)
    • Range is 0.0 to 131.0.

    • Accuracy is at least ±10% of nominal value.

    • If socket is in AUTO state, then - is displayed.

    • If socket is currently empty, then ? is displayed.

  • Optical Power - Receive (dBm)
    • Range is −40.0 to +8.2, or LOS.

    • Accuracy is ±3 dB.

    • If socket is in AUTO state, then - is displayed.

    • If socket is currently empty, then ? is displayed.

  • Optical Power - Transmit (dBm)
    • OMA for Optical Modulation Amplitude

    • AVG for average power

    • If socket is in AUTO state, then - is displayed.

    • If socket is currently empty, then ? is displayed.

    • If DDM is not supported on the PTM, then NA is displayed.

  • Temperature (Celsius)
    • SFP: Range is −128°C to +128°C.

    • Accuracy is ±3°.

    • If socket is in AUTO state, then - is displayed.

    • If socket is currently empty, then ? is displayed.

  • Calibration (interpretation of the DDM data)
    • INTERNAL

    • EXTERNAL

  • Power Supply Voltage (Volts)
    • Range is 0 to +6.55 Volts.

    • Accuracy is ±3%.

    • If the specified monitored type baselined value has not been established, then NA is displayed

- Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure, refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter.

Steps

Perform the following steps to view the Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM) monitoring parameters for optical pluggable transmission modules.

1

From the System View window, select View → Equipment.

Result:

The View Equipment window opens.

2

Expand the equipment list by clicking on the plus (+) sign next to the required group. Select the required pluggable transmission module socket (PTM sc) and click Select.

Result:

The pluggable transmission module parameters appear.

3

Important!

Not all optical SFP pluggable transmission modules support DDM. If DDM is not supported, NA is output for the parameter values.

View the DDM Monitoring parameter values. Click Close to exit.
