Procedure 6-7: Configure Forced Laser Shutdown parameter

- Overview

Use this procedure to enable or disable the Forced Laser Shutdown parameter. This feature allows the user to override normal laser operation and shut down the laser manually by enabling the feature on a per-port basis.

Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.

Log in to the circuit pack being provisioned.

If ...

Then...

The circuit pack is VLNC64, TDM port

From the Navigation menu, select Port → PDH/TDM Port → OC3/STM1 Configuration.

The circuit pack is VLNC4x or VLNC6x, Ethernet port

From the Navigation menu, select Port → Ethernet Port → Configuration.

Observe the Laser Status field. This field illustrated the actual laser status of the port.

If ...

Then...

Laser On and you wish to turn the laser off,

Change the Forced Laser Shutdown value to Enabled and click Submit.

Laser Off and you wish to turn the laser on,

Change the Forced Laser Shutdown value to Disabled and click Submit.

Note: The laser may be off because there is an active internal loopback. If a loopback is active, changing Forced Laser Shutdown value to Disabled will not turn on the laser. If desired, you could release the loopback. refer to Procedure 7-2: Operate/release loopback

Observe the Laser Status field and confirm that the status has changed.

If...

Then...

Ethernet port

From the Navigation menu, select Port → Ethernet Port → Summary and verify that the required parameters were provisioned correctly.

OC3/STM1 port

From the Navigation menu, select Port → PDH/TDM Port → OC3/STM1 Summary and verify that the required parameters were provisioned correctly.

Result:

The Summary screen appears.
