encapsulating security payload

A member of the IPsec protocol suite. ESP is a transport-layer protocol that provides data confidentiality, origin authentication, integrity checking, and replay protection. The communicating systems use a shared key to encrypt and decipher data. ESP is similar to AH , but provides IP header protection only in tunnel mode.
