Where do I start?

The planning phase

Before you consider deploying a new NSP system, upgrading or adding to a system, or modifying a system in any way, you are strongly encouraged to become familiar with the following guides in order to plan your deployment:

  • NSP System Architecture Guide

Describes the NSP features and installation options, and provides a functional description of the NSP that includes design standards

  • NSP Release Notice

Describes release-specific restrictions and important technical updates that are not captured in other NSP guides

  • NSP Planning Guide

Specifies hardware, virtualization, network bandwidth, and storage requirements; includes deployment restrictions and special considerations

After you identify your deployment requirements under consultation with a Nokia representative:

  • You submit an NSP Platform Sizing Request to Nokia.

  • You receive a response that describes the deployment requirements.

The next steps

After the planning phase, you prepare the platform hardware based on the response to your NSP Platform Sizing Request:

Note: An expanded deployment refers to the addition of an NSP VM. such as for MDM or an Flow Collection, or an ancillary component. For information about adding non-dedicated NSP cluster nodes to meet scale requirements, see the NSP System Administrator Guide.

Note: An ancillary component is a system component that is deployed outside the NSP cluster, such as an NSP auxiliary database or the NFM-P.

  • new or expanded deployment—commission the hardware for hosting the NSP VMs and other system components, and set up the required VM hypervisors

  • system or component upgrade—ensure that the current NSP platform meets or exceeds the specifications for the new release

When the platform hardware is in place, you then use the information in this guide to perform the deployment operations, as described in Finding your way in this guide.
