Configure SNMP trap destinations and thresholds

Purpose

This topic describes the steps to configure SNMP. You can add or remove an SNMP trap destination for SNMP traps and configure threshold and alarms for SNMP traps.

SNMP traps are typically sent to an Operations Support System (OSS), Network Management System (NMS), or Element Management System (EMS).

Lucent CM supports up to three different SNMP trap destinations.

SNMP parameters

The SNMP parameters:

Parameter

Description

Host

Name of the destination that receives the SNMP trap.

Port

Port of the destination that receives the SNMP trap.

SNMP TCA Settings parameters

For each trap type, define the following characteristics:

Parameter

Description

SNMP Trap Severity

The alarm level related to the SNMP trap when the event is reported to the OSS.

SNMP Trap Threshold

The threshold level for this event in number of events per hour.

Lucent CM sends the SNMP trap to an OSS only when the number of SNMP traps generated per hour, exceeds this value.

The threshold counter is reset to 0 at the top of each hour.

SNMP Trap Allowed

Checkmark box to allow or inhibit threshold-cross alerting for the SNMP trap.

If inhibited, all SNMP traps are reported to an OSS, no threshold is applied.

SNMP version

The Lucent CM supports SNMP version 2c (SNMPv2c).

SNMP MIB information

The Lucent CM traps are described in the following Management Information Block (MIB) files that are available on the Lucent CM server:

To access the MIB files:

  1. Enter http://<Lucent_CM_server_name>:8843/doc/admin/intro/index.html (recommended) or http://<Lucent_CM_server_name>:8888/doc/admin/intro/index.html

  2. Click SNMP.

  3. Click AGCS Common MIB or AGCS EBS MIB.

SNMP trap information

Refer to Appendix C, SNMP traps for a list of the SNMP traps that are sent by Lucent CM, and details of the traps.

SNMP threshold crossing alert

Whether an SNMP event from Lucent CM is reported to an OSS, depends on the threshold level that is defined for that event. The threshold level is defined as the number of events that occur in one hour. No SNMP events are reported to the OSS until the threshold level is crossed.

Important!  Lucent CM logs all SNMP events, regardless whether they are subjected to threshold-cross alerting or are sent to an OSS.
