This topic describes the place of the Lucent CM in the Lucent solutions. It provides a short overview of how Lucent CM connects with other networks and network elements.
Lucent CM can be used in:
IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) solutions
VoIP for Enterprise
Hosted solution

In an IMS solution, the Lucent CM is deployed and maintained by a service provider operating an IMS network. The service provider can offer services (including Lucent CM) to enterprises or residential customers.
Besides the Lucent CM system, the service provider also hosts:
Call servers
Other related servers, services and applications (LDAP, voice mail, DNS)
In an enterprise solution, the Lucent CM and other components are deployed and maintained by an enterprise. The enterprise has full control over the entire Lucent CM system. The enterprise uses the Lucent CM to offer services to it's employees at enterprise location or employees at home offices.
Besides the Lucent CM system, the enterprise also hosts:
Call servers
Other related servers, services and applications (LDAP, voice mail)
Network equipment (routers, switches)
In a hosted solution, the Lucent CM is deployed and maintained by a service provider. The service provider can offer services (including Lucent CM) to enterprises or residential customers.
Besides the Lucent CM system, the service provider also hosts:
Call servers
Other related servers, services and applications (LDAP, voice mail, DNS)
Depending on the needs of a deployment, a proper configuration for a Lucent CM system deployment is selected. The supported Lucent CM configuration allows the Lucent CM system to be deployed in many environments. Ranging from small enterprises to very large service provider deployments.
Available configuration include:
Simplex node, single location.
High availability, single location
High availability, single location with DMZ or secure zone data bases
High availability, two locations (geographical high availability) with DMZ or secure zone data bases
The configurations can easily be changed and scaled to suit the needs for any deployment.
In all deployments, all nodes in the Lucent CM system can use the same hardware and software configuration. However the number of nodes and the location of the nodes differ per type of deployment.
