Use this procedure to install the following circuit packs:
Important!
If the Main slots are equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW59, LNW82, or LNW504 OLIU circuit packs, LNW6 and LNW7 DS1 circuit packs are not supported.
Important!
The high-density LNW8 and LNW801 56DS1/E1 circuit packs are only compatible with the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX High Capacity Shelf (DMX-HC-20A, DMX-HC-30A, or DMX-HC-30A-CE Shelf Type). The standard Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX Shelf does not support the high-density LNW8 and LNW801 56DS1/E1 circuit packs. If a high-density LNW8 or LNW801 56DS1/E1 circuit pack is installed in the standard Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX Shelf, the system will not recognize the circuit pack as an allowable type.
To determine the shelf type, select View → Equipment, highlight Shelf, and click Select to obtain the shelf details.
It is assumed that the DS1 cables have already been installed. Refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer (DMX) Installation Manual, 365-372-304 for cabling information.
The system does not support mixing standard density (LNW6 and LNW7) DS1 circuit packs in the same Function group. The circuit packs in a Function group must be the same circuit pack type. For example, both circuit packs in a Function group must be standard density LNW6 or LNW7 circuit packs. If the circuit packs in a Function group are different circuit pack types, the system reports an unexpected CP type alarm and service may be impacted.
Beginning in Release 9.1, the system supports mixing high-density (LNW8 and LNW801) DS1 circuit packs in the same Function group. In this case, the circuit packs in a Function group can be the same circuit pack type. For example, both circuit packs can be high-density LNW8 circuit packs, or both circuit packs must be high-density LNW801 circuit packs, or the circuit packs in a Function group can be an LNW8 and an LNW801.
You must log in as a Privileged, General, Maintenance, or Reports Only user to complete this procedure.
Prior to performing this procedure:
Refer to Required equipment and Before you begin in this chapter.
Refer to Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.
Ensure that the DS1 or DS1/E1 circuit packs are available for installation.
If installing high-density LNW8 or LNW801 circuit packs in the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX High Capacity Shelf, verify that the DS1 cables are installed to the bottom connectors (J1-J8) and middle connectors (J20-J27) of the shelf backplane as required. Refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer (DMX) Installation Manual, 365-372-304 for cabling information.
Use the work instructions and select View → Equipment to access the circuit pack details and determine if the Main slots are equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW59, LNW82, or LNW504 OLIU circuit packs.
Complete the following steps to install DS1/E1 circuit packs.
1 |
Determine the Function group slots (A, B, C, or D) being equipped with circuit packs. Reference:
2 |
Determine from office records or circuit order the length of the DS1 cabling between the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX and the DSX-1 cross-connect point and any other circuit pack parameters to be set.
3 |
Open the faceplate latches and seat the circuit pack in the required Function slot by applying steady pressure to both faceplate latches. Result: The FAULT LED on the DS1 or DS1/E1 circuit pack lights for approximately 30 seconds then goes off and then ACTIVE LED lights, indicating successful installation. (Firmware updates may take place that add additional wait time.) Select View → Refresh System View and the circuit pack appears in the WaveStar® CIT System View indicating successful installation.
4 |
Is a second (protection) circuit pack required in the companion Function slot?
| ||||||
5 |
Open the faceplate latches and seat the second (protection) circuit pack in the companion Function slot by applying steady pressure to both faceplate latches. Result: The FAULT LED on the circuit pack lights for approximately 30 seconds then goes off, indicating successful installation. (Firmware updates may take place that add additional wait time.) Select View → Refresh System View and the circuit pack appears in the WaveStar® CIT System View indicating successful installation.
6 |
From the System View window, click the Alarm List button to verify that no alarms, loopbacks, protection switch lockouts, or protection switches are present for the ports on the circuit packs just installed. Result: The NE Alarm List appears. No alarms should be present for the circuit packs just installed.
7 |
If required at this time, provision the circuit pack and/or port parameters. Reference: Procedure 4-9: Provision DS1/E1 circuit packs/ports for service End of steps |
