When a port is provisioned for EC1 operation, the port accepts an incoming EC-1 signal from the STSX-1 panel or equivalent connection point with individual channels available for VT1.5 or STS-1 cross-connections.
When a port is provisioned for Ported Channelized DS3 operation, the port accepts an incoming DS3 signal from the DSX panel or equivalent connection point with individual DS1 signals. The DS3 signal is terminated and demultiplexed into the individual DS1 signals. The individual DS1 signals are available for VT1.5 or STS-1 cross-connections, similar to the LNW18 TMUX circuit pack.
When a port is provisioned for Ported Unchannelized DS3 operation, the port accepts an incoming DS3 signal from the DSX panel or equivalent connection point that is considered unchannelized (may or may not contain DS1 signals). The DS3 signal is available for STS-1 cross-connections only.
When a port is provisioned for Portless DS3 operation, a channelized DS3 signal within an STS-1 tributary from a SONET interface on a different circuit pack (OC-n or EC-1) or the same circuit pack (an EC-1 on another port) is terminated and demultiplexed into constituent DS1 signals. The DS1 signals are encapsulated into VT1.5 signals and cross-connected at the VT-level within the cross-connection fabric on the Main circuit pack to any other interface that supports DS1 signal transport, including a DS1 interface, a channelized DS3 interface, an EC-1 or OC-n interface. This requires two bidirectional backplane STS-1 signals to convert a single (bidirectional) STS-1 channel.
If the Main slots are equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW59, LNW82, or LNW504 OLIU circuit packs, portless DS3 operation is supported on all ports.
If the Main slots are equipped with large fabric (non-VLF) circuit packs, portless DS3 operation is supported on the odd ports only. The corresponding even port (odd port plus one) is unavailable.
If the Main slots are not equipped with large fabric or very large fabric OLIU circuit packs, attempts to provision portless DS3 operation will be denied.
You must log in as a Privileged or General user to complete this procedure.
Prior to performing this procedure:
Refer to Required equipment and Before you begin in this chapter.
Complete the following steps to provision TMUX circuit packs/ports for service.
1 |
From the System View window, click the Alarm List button to verify that no alarms, loopbacks, protection switch lockouts, or protection switches are present for the ports on the circuit packs just installed. Result: The NE Alarm List appears. |
2 |
From the System View menu, select Configuration → Equipment. Result: The Configure Equipment window opens. |
3 |
Find and highlight the TMUX circuit pack being provisioned, then click Select at the bottom of the window. Result: The circuit pack parameters appear. |
4 |
Provision the required circuit pack parameters according to the work instructions, then click Apply if changes were made. If no changes were made, go to the next step. Result: A dialog box appears asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes to apply the changes. |
5 |
Click Close to exit or continue with the next step to provision ports. |
6 |
Find the TMUX circuit pack with the ports being provisioned, then expand the equipment list by clicking on the plus (+) signs. |
7 |
Click (highlight) the port being provisioned, then click Select at the bottom of the window. Result: The port parameters appear. |
8 |
Select and provision the required port parameters, according to your work instructions. |
9 |
Important! DS3 ports do not support J0 section trace. If required, provision J0 section trace for the EC-1 ports. Reference: Procedure 6-13: Provision J0 section trace |
10 |
If required, provision the DS3/EC1 port control plane parameters. Reference: Procedure 9-13: Establish external network-to-network interface (E-NNI) |
11 |
Important! The parameter settings may be applied to the selected port only or all ports on the circuit pack. Select This Port or All Ports, This Pack in the Apply to: field according to the work instructions. |
12 |
Click Apply to make provisioning changes. If no changes were made, continue with the next step. Result: If All Ports, This Pack was selected in the Apply to: field, a dialog box appears asking if you want to apply all parameter settings on the screen. Click Yes or No as required. A dialog box may appear asking you to confirm executing this command. Verify that you are provisioning the correct port(s), then click Yes to apply your changes. |
13 |
If required, repeat Step 7 through Step 12 to provision other TMUX ports. End of steps |
