Procedure 4-30: Provision 10G Muxponder circuit pack SONET/GbE/Data client port

- Overview

Use this procedure to provision the following 10G Muxponder circuit pack client ports for service.

  • SONET OC-3, OC-12, and OC-48

  • Private Line Gigabit Ethernet (1GbE)

  • 1G Fibre Channel (FC100)

  • 2G Fibre Channel (FC200)

  • 1G Fibre Connection (FICON)

  • 1G Fibre Connection Express (FICON_EXP)

- Privilege level

You must log in as a Privileged or General user to complete this procedure.

- Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure:

  1. Refer to Required equipment and Before you begin in this chapter.

  2. Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.

  3. Verify the work instruction specify the parameters and values to be provisioned.

Steps

Complete the following steps to provision 10G Muxponder circuit pack client ports for service.

From the System View menu, click the Alarm List button to verify that no alarms are present for the circuit packs/client ports to be provisioned.

Result:

The NE Alarm List appears.

From the System View menu, select Configuration → Equipment.

Result:

The Configure Equipment window opens.

Find the 10G Muxponder circuit pack with the client ports being provisioned, then expand the equipment list by clicking on the plus (+) sign next to the circuit pack.

Important!

If the client port Signal Type parameter is STNA (default value), the Signal Type parameter must be changed to a non-STNA value before other client port/socket parameter changes are allowed. If the client port Signal Type parameter is STNA and a pluggable transmission module is installed, the system reports an unexpected or failed Pluggable Transmission Module alarm.

When provisioning the client port Signal Type parameter, the system only allows changes between STNA and non-STNA values. If the client port Signal Type parameter is a non-STNA value, the Signal Type parameter must be changed to STNA before changing the Signal Type parameter to another non-STNA value.

If changing the client port Signal Type parameter...

Then...

from a non-STNA value to another non-STNA value,

Continue with the next step.

from STNA to a non-STNA value,

Proceed to Step 7.

is not required,

Proceed to Step 9.

Find and click (highlight) the required client port (Port 1 thru Port 8) and click Select at the bottom of the window.

Result:

The client port parameters appear.

Provision the Signal Type parameter as STNA and click Apply.

Result:

A dialog box may appear asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes to apply changes.

Find and click (highlight) the required client port (Port 1 thru Port 8) and click Select at the bottom of the window.

Result:

The client port parameters appear.

Provision the Signal Type parameter to the required non-STNA value according to the work instructions and click Apply.

Result:

A dialog box may appear asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes to apply changes.

Click (highlight) the required pluggable transmission module (PTM) associated with the client port being provisioned, then click Select at the bottom of the window.

Result:

The pluggable transmission module parameters appear.

Provision the required pluggable transmission module parameters according to the work instructions, then click Apply if changes were made. If no changes were made, continue with the next step.

Result:

A dialog box may appear asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes to apply changes.

Find and click (highlight) the required client port (Port 1 thru Port 8) and click Select at the bottom of the window.

Result:

The client port parameters appear.

Provision the required client port parameters according to the work instructions, then click Apply if changes were made. If no changes were made continue with the next step.

Result:

A dialog box may appear asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes to apply changes.

If required, repeat this procedure to provision additional client ports for service; otherwise, click Close to exit.
