Procedure 4-32: Remove subshelf from multishelf Digital Cross-Connect System (DCS) application

- Overview

Use this procedure to remove a DS1 or DS3 subshelf from an existing multishelf Digital Cross-Connect System (DCS) application.

- Privilege level

You must log in as a Privileged or General Access user to complete this procedure.

- Before you begin

Before you begin this procedure:

  1. Refer to Laser safety and Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.

  2. Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.

  3. Verify that the work instructions specify the subshelf to be removed.

Steps

Complete the following steps to remove a DS1 or DS3 subshelf from an existing multishelf Digital Cross-Connect System (DCS) application.

To remove the subshelf, select View → Cross-Connections from the System View menu. Select Shelf from the View Cross Connections window, then click Select. Print or save the cross-connections to be deleted, then click Close. Select Configuration → Cross-Connections from the System View window to start the Cross Connection Wizard. Follow the instruction in the Wizard to delete all existing cross-connections on the target subshelf.

To remove the subshelf, select Configuration → Delete Subshelf to remove the required DS1 or DS3 subshelf.

Result:

You will be logged off the system during the controller reset and provisionable parameters will be set to factory default.

A flashing b in the IND display on the SYSCTL indicates that a boot is in progress. During the boot, the b may extinguish for up to 20 seconds and then resume flashing.

Holdover alarm may also occur since timing mode reverts back to External. If required to silence alarm, select Configuration → Timing/Sync and provision the system timing mode to Free Running.
