Procedure 12-27.3: Verify active/standby status of OC-n port

Important!

This is not a stand-alone procedure. Perform this procedure only as directed by another procedure.

Steps

Important!

This procedure is optional.

Complete the following steps to verify the active/standby status of an OC-n port and perform manual switches to switch traffic away from an active OC-n port.

1

Important!

If the port is active for transmission and the optical fibers are disconnected, the system performs an automatic protection switches and subsequent transmission hits (less than 60 ms) will occur. If desired, perform this step to determine the transmission state of the OC-n port.

Select View → Protection to access the required protection groups (according to the work instructions) and determine the active lines/paths supported by the OC-n port. Record the active lines/paths supported by the OC-n port. Click Close.

2

Important!

If the OC-n port is active for transmission, optional manual switches can be performed before disconnecting the optical fiber. In UPSRs, each path supported by the OC-n port must be switched separately. Transmission hits (less than 60 ms) will occur for each separate protection switch.

If the OC-n port is not active for transmission, proceed to Step 3.

To perform an optional manual transmission switch traffic away from an active OC-n port, select Fault → Protection Switch.

If the required port is part of a ...

Then ...

UPSR protection group,

Expand Path Protection, select the required path and click Select. Select the Manual Switch Type and click Apply.

BSLR protection group,

Select the required 2F BLSR line and click Select. Select the Direction for the circuit pack to be replaced (West for slot 1 or East for slot 2) and Manual to Protection, Ring Switch Type, and click Apply.

1+1 protection group,

Select the required 1+1 Line and click Select. Select the Manual Switch Type and click Apply.

Result:

A dialog box appears asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes.

The ABN LED is lighted on the SYSCTL circuit pack faceplate.

If a UPSR or 1+1 protection group, the system reports a manual switch condition.

If a BLSR protection group, the system reports the Protection Switch, OC48 Port, Manual Switch, MSR, 2F condition (Not Alarmed).

3

If required, repeat Step 1 to verify that the OC-n port is not active for transmission.

STOP! To complete the upgrade, return to the procedure that directed you to perform this procedure.
