Procedure 11-38.6: Delete LAG on LNW170 (change protected to unprotected)

- Overview

This procedure assumes that existing LNW170 circuit packs are installed in the shelf with a Slot Protection State of PROT (protected) and you want to change the Slot Protection State to UNPROT (unprotected) and delete the LNW170 LAG groups.

Important!

The command to change the Slot Protection State to UNPROT may be addressed to either slot of the Function/Growth group. The slot addressed will retain all its provisioned values and inherit the now unprotected cross-connections and virtual switches. Layer 2 parameters of each LAG will transfer to their member ports.

The following results when the Slot Protection State is changed back to UNPROT:

  • Both slots remain provisioned for LNW170 circuit packs, even if one slot was originally unequipped when the Slot Protection State was provisioned to PROT.

  • The LAGs and protection group are removed.

  • Values of VLAN Tagging Mode, Ethernet Cross Connect Mode, Port Configuration and all VCG parameters remain the same for the slot addressed by the command to change the Slot Protection State to UNPROT, unless the values are specifically changed with the same command.

  • The slot addressed will retain all its provisioned values and inherit the now unprotected cross-connections and virtual switches. Layer 2 parameters of each LAG will transfer to their member ports.

  • The values of all provisionable parameters for the slot not addressed by the command are changed to their default values.

  • If the command addresses slot 2, change messages are issued for deleting the cross-connections on the slot 1 AID and for creating the cross-connections on the slot 2 AID. These cross-connections are now reported only against slot 2. The change messages are issued because of the change of slot on which the cross-connections are reported. Since the cross-connections are not actually deleted and re-created, transmission hits do not occur. If the command addresses slot 1, there are no changes to cross-connectionions.

  • For shelves with non-VLF Mains:
    • If an LNW170 has not been inserted into the unequipped slot, when the Slot Protection State is changed to UNPROT, the unequipped slot reverts back to its normal non-VLF MAIN unequipped state in which any circuit pack inserted into the slot will cause an "CP not allowed-eqpt" alarm to be issued.

    • If an LNW170 has been inserted into the unequipped slot, when the Slot Protection State is changed to UNPROT, the slot not addressed by the command reverts back to its normal non-VLF MAIN unequipped state in which any circuit pack inserted into the slot will cause an "CP not allowed-eqpt" alarm to be issued. If the LNW170 in the slot not addressed by aid has not been removed, the "CP not allowed-eqpt" alarm is issued at the completion of the ED-EQPT command.

Steps

Complete the following steps to change the Slot Protection State from Protected to Unprotected for a Function/Growth group equipped with LNW170 100/1G FXS circuit pack(s):

NOTICE

Service-disruption hazard

Changing the Slot Protection State of the LNW170 100/1G FXS circuit pack causes a circuit pack reset which may take up to several minutes to complete and disrupt service.

Wait until the circuit pack reset is complete before performing additional provisioning.

Use the TL1 ed-eqpt command to change the Slot Protection State to UNPROT (prot_state=UNPROT), or select Configuration → Equipment from the System View, select (highlight) the required LNW170 100/1G FXS circuit pack, then click Select. Provision the Slot Protection State to UNPROT.

Result:

If the Main slots are equipped with VLF OLIU circuit packs, the LNW170 100/1G FXS circuit packs are unprotected and the corresponding ports on the companion circuit packs operate independently.

If the Main slots are equipped with non-VLF OLIU circuit packs, the LNW170 100/1G FXS circuit pack in the addressed slot is unprotected and any circuit pack in the companion slot is alarmed (CP not allowed - eqpt).

See the Overview section of this task for additional results.

Important!

Both slots remain provisioned for LNW170 circuit packs, even if one slot was originally unequipped when the Slot Protection State was provisioned to PROT.

If the Main slots are equipped with non-VLF OLIU circuit packs and the system is reporting a CP not allowed - eqpt alarm for the companion LNW170 100/1G FXS circuit pack, remove the affected circuit pack from the Function/Growth group according to local procedures and select Configuration → Update System → Update All.

If the Main slots are equipped with VLF OLIU circuit packs and you want to change the expected circuit pack type in the slot that was not addressed by the command, remove the affected circuit pack from the Function/Growth group according to local procedures and select Configuration → Update System → Update All.
