Procedure 7-23: Allow/inhibit port/tributary maintenance

- Overview

Use this procedure to change the following:

  • Port maintenance state of existing ports

  • Tributary maintenance state of existing tributaries.

To provision the default port maintenance and default tributary maintenance parameters for new ports/tributaries that are created, refer to Procedure 6-2: Provision shelf/system parameters.

- Port maintenance

Access to the loopback and test transmission commands for ports is controlled using the Port Maintenance parameter. If the Port Maintenance parameter is provisioned to Allow, loopbacks and transmission testing are allowed on the port. Existing loopbacks and current transmission tests are not changed.

If the Port Maintenance parameter is provisioned to Inhibit, new loopbacks and transmission testing are not allowed on the port. If the port already has a loopback provisioned or is being transmission tested, attempting to change the Port Maintenance parameter to Inhibit is denied.

Tributary maintenance

Access to the test access commands for tributaries is controlled using the Tributary Maintenance parameter. If the Tributary Maintenance parameter is provisioned to Allow, test access is allowed on the tributary. Test access that is already provisioned is not changed.

If the Tributary Maintenance parameter is provisioned to Inhibit, new test access provisioning is not allowed using the tributary. If the tributary already has test access provisioned, attempting to change the Tributary Maintenance parameter to Inhibit is denied.
