Procedure 4-23.2: Change slot protection state to protected for low-speed OLIU

Steps

Complete the following steps to change the Slot Protection State from Unprotected to Protected for a Function/Growth group equipped with low-speed OLIU circuit packs:

1

Important!

If cross-connections exist to the ports to be provisioned on the affected circuit pack, the Slot Protection State cannot be changed.

From the System View, select View → Cross-Connections to obtain a current list of cross-connections and verify that no cross-connections exist on the ports to be provisioned on the affected circuit pack.

If required, select Configuration → Cross-Connections to access the Cross-Connection Wizard and delete any existing cross-connections on the ports to be provisioned on the affected circuit pack.

2

Important!

If the affected Function/Growth group is equipped with two circuit packs that are different circuit pack types, one circuit pack must be removed before changing the Slot Protection State to Protected. Two circuit packs that are different circuit pack types are not compatible when the Slot Protection State is Protected.

If required, remove one circuit pack from the affected Function/Growth group according to local procedures.

3

From the System View, select Configuration → Update System → Update All.

4

From the System View, select Configuration → Equipment.

Result:

The Configure Equipment window opens.

5

Find the required low-speed OLIU circuit pack, then expand the equipment list by clicking on the plus (+) sign next to the low-speed OLIU circuit pack

6

Select the required port and click Select.

Result:

The port parameters appear.

7

Important!

If the port Signal Type parameter is STNA for a port on an LNW55 multirate OLIU circuit pack, the Signal Type parameter must be provisioned the required OC-N signal rate before the port Application parameter can be changed.

If required, provision the port Signal Type parameter and click Apply.

8

If required, install the pluggable transmission module in the LNW55 multirate OLIU circuit pack.

Procedure 4-16: Install pluggable transmission modules

9

Important!

The Application parameter for at least one port on the affected low-speed OLIU circuit pack must be provisioned for a protected Application (for example, 1+1).

Provision the port Application parameter for the required protected application. Click Apply and Close.

Result:

When at least one optical port has been provisioned for a protected Application (for example, 1+1) the Slot Protection State changes to Protected. The Slot Protection State change affects both slots in the Function/Growth group.

10

Select View → Equipment to access the affected circuit packs and verify that the Slot Protection State changed to Protected.

11

If required at this time, install the required protection circuit pack in the companion slot of the Function/Growth group.
