Procedure 12-15: Back out LNW70 100/1G FXS circuit pack upgrade

- Overview
DANGER

NOTICE

Service-disruption hazard

If Configuration → Update System → Update All has been performed the node cannot be returned to the original pre-upgrade state.

Do not use this procedure to downgrade an LNW170 100/1G FXS circuit pack to an LNW70 100/1G FXS circuit pack if the upgrade has been completed. The system does not support downgrading an LNW170 circuit pack to an LNW70 circuit pack.

Use this procedure to back out of an LNW70 100/1G FXS circuit pack to LNW170 100/1G FXS circuit pack upgrade.

Backing out of an upgrade in progress returns the node to the pre-upgrade state.

- Privilege level

You must log in as a Privileged user to complete this procedure.

Required equipment

The following equipment is required to perform this procedure:

  • Wrist strap

  • Original LNW70 100/1G FXS circuit pack

The pluggable transmission modules installed in the LNW170 circuit pack are reused in the original LNW70 circuit pack.

NOTICE

Equipment damage

Rocking circuit packs back and forth when removing or installing them can damage circuit pack and/or shelf connectors.

Do not rock circuit packs back and forth when removing or installing them. Carefully slide circuit packs into or out of the shelf slot.

DANGER

NOTICE

Service-disruption hazard

If the unprotected LNW170 circuit pack is in service, a service outage will occur when the fibers, pluggable transmission modules, or LNW170 circuit pack are removed from the shelf.

This is a service-affecting procedure.

DANGER

NOTICE

Service-disruption hazard

Removing or installing circuit packs during a System Reset can cause system errors.

Do not remove or install a circuit pack during a System Reset. If a System Reset occurs, wait until the System Reset is complete, then remove or install the circuit pack.

- Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure:

  1. Refer to Electrostatic discharge information in Chapter 1, Safety.

  2. Review the applicable Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer Extend (DMXtend) Software Release Description for any detailed procedures or cautions that may apply to this upgrade procedure.

Steps

Important!

The original LNW70 circuit pack has been replaced with the replacement LNW170 circuit pack and the system is reporting a unexpected CP type alarm.

Complete the following steps to back out of an LNW70 100/1G FXS circuit pack to LNW170 100/1G FXS circuit pack upgrade.

DANGER

NOTICE

Service-disruption hazard

A service outage will occur when the fibers, pluggable transmission modules, or LNW170 circuit pack are removed from the shelf until the original LNW70 circuit pack and pluggable transmission modules are installed with fibers reconnected.

The length of the service outage is minimized if the pluggable transmission modules/fibers are disconnected/moved from the replacement LNW170 circuit pack to the original LNW70 circuit pack while the original LNW70 circuit pack is initializing.

Open the faceplate latches on the replacement LNW170 circuit pack. If possible, remove the replacement LNW170 circuit pack without disconnecting the pluggable transmission modules and fibers. If necessary, only remove the pluggable transmission modules and fibers required to remove the replacement LNW170 circuit pack.

Result:

The system reports a CP removed alarm.

2

Install the original LNW70 circuit pack. While the original LNW70 is initializing, disconnect the pluggable transmission modules/fibers from the replacement LNW170 circuit pack and clean/connect to the original LNW70 circuit pack.

Result:

The circuit pack initialization takes approximately 90 seconds. After the circuit pack initialization is complete, the original LNW70 circuit pack/pluggable transmission modules are autoprovisioned.

All alarms are cleared and service is restored on the original LNW70 circuit pack.

STOP! End of Procedure. This completes the backout procedure at the local node.
