Use this procedure to delete an optical channel (OCH) from a DWDM network.
Important!
This procedure assumes that the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend is in service and that an optical channel is being deleted.
Prior to performing this procedure:
Refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter.
Refer to Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.
Verify that the work instructions specify the terminating nodes, pass-through nodes (if required), add/drop optical port addresses, Optical Channel (OCH) port addresses, and the OCH cross-connections to be deleted.
Complete the following steps to delete an optical channel (OCH) from a DWDM network.
1 |
Using the work instructions, determine the DWDM network configuration and identify the terminating nodes and pass-through nodes (if required) for the optical channel to be deleted. Important! It may be helpful to make a sketch of the DWDM network to visualize the path of the optical channel through the network. |
2 |
At the terminating and pass-through nodes (if required), click the Alarm List button to obtain an NE Alarm List and verify that no alarms are present. Clear all alarms before continuing this procedure. Reference: Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer Extend (DMXtend) Alarm Messages and Trouble Clearing Guide, 365-372-326 |
3 |
Important! OCH cross-connections are used between a DWDM-compatible OC-192 OLIU add/drop optical port and an OCH port with the same frequency or between the XM10G/8 OTU2 port and an OCH port with the same frequency. At the terminating and pass-through nodes (if required), determine the OCH cross-connections for the optical channel being deleted using the work instructions, or select View → OCH Cross-Connections to obtain a current list of OCH cross-connections. Record the source addresses of the OCH cross-connections to be deleted. |
4 |
At the terminating and pass-through nodes (if required), select Configuration → OCH Cross-Connections to access the OCH Cross-Connection Wizard and delete the OCH cross-connections for the optical channel being deleted. |
5 |
Important! This step may activate the office alarms. The audible alarm may be suppressed by pressing the ACO push button. At the terminating nodes, disconnect the optical fibers between the required OCH port and the add/drop optical port. Result: The circuit pack FAULT LED and port LED (if equipped) flashes when the incoming signal is removed. |
6 |
At the terminating nodes, click the Alarm List button to obtain an NE Alarm List and verify that the correct optical fibers were removed. |
7 |
At the terminating nodes, select Configuration → Update System → Update States to clear the LOS alarms. Result: The flashing circuit pack FAULT LED and port LED (if equipped) go off. |
8 |
At the terminating nodes, click the Alarm List button to obtain an NE Alarm List and verify that the LOS alarms are cleared. |
9 |
At the terminating nodes, select View → Equipment to access the required OCH ports and verify that the Port Monitoring Mode changed to AUTO. |
10 |
At the terminating nodes (if required), click the Alarm List button to obtain an NE Alarm List and verify that no alarms are present. End of steps |
