Procedure 10-17: Delete SONET/GbE/Data client signal

- Overview

Use this procedure to delete a SONET/GbE/Data client signal from a DWDM network.

Important!

This procedure assumes that the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend is in service and that a client signal is being deleted.

- Privilege level

You must login as either a Privileged or General user to complete this procedure.

- Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure:

  1. Refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter.

  2. Refer to Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.

  3. Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.

  4. Verify that the work instructions specify the terminating nodes, SONET/GbE/Data signal add/drop optical port addresses and client signal port addresses to be deleted.

Steps

Complete the following steps to delete a SONET/GbE/Data client signal from a DWDM network.

1

Using the work instructions, determine the DWDM network configuration and identify the terminating nodes for the client signal to be deleted.

Important!

It may be helpful to make a sketch of the DWDM network to visualize the path of the optical channel through the network.

2

At the terminating nodes, click the Alarm List button to obtain an NE Alarm List and verify that no alarms are present. Clear all alarms before continuing this procedure.

3

Important!

This step may activate the office alarms. The audible alarm may be suppressed by pressing the ACO push button.

At the terminating nodes, select Configuration → Equipment to access the required client signal port on the XM10G/8 circuit packs and provision the client signal port Signal Type parameter as STNA.

Result:

The system reports an unexpected or failed Pluggable Transmission Module alarm. The circuit pack FAULT LED flashes and the port LED (if equipped) is lighted.

Procedure 4-29: Provision 10G Muxponder circuit pack SONET/GbE/Data client port

4

At the terminating nodes, click the Alarm List button to obtain an NE Alarm List and verify that the correct client signal port was provisioned as STNA.

5

At the terminating nodes, disconnect the optical fibers between the required client signal port and the SONET/GbE/Data add/drop optical port.

6

At the terminating nodes, remove the required pluggable transmission module from the XM10G/8 circuit packs and replace with a dust cover.

Result:

The circuit pack FAULT LED and port LED (if equipped) go off.

7

At the terminating nodes, select Configuration → Update System → Update States to clear the alarms.

8

At the terminating nodes, click the Alarm List button to obtain an NE Alarm List and verify that the alarms are cleared.
