Smart circuit packs have microprocessors and run software.
Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend supports the following smart circuit packs:
Hard resets (default) are available for all smart circuit packs. Hard resets initialize the board controller and restart all devices on the smart circuit pack, similar to a power on scenario.
When a hard reset occurs on Ethernet, DATA, OMD, XM10G/8, smart OLIUs, and on unprotected DS1, DS3 and TMUX circuit packs, service will be affected. Hard resets should be used only when service is already disrupted in the affected circuit pack.
Soft resets are available for all smart circuit packs. Soft resets restart the circuit pack application software for the affected smart circuit pack.
You must log in as a Privileged or General user to complete this procedure.
Prior to performing this procedure:
Refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter.
Obtain the work instructions for this procedure and/or determine the smart circuit pack to be reset.
Complete the following steps to reset a smart circuit pack.

Important! If the smart OLIU circuit pack to be reset is part of a protected pair of circuit packs and is the active circuit pack for timing, then a manual timing switch must be performed before resetting the smart OLIU circuit pack. Select View → Timing/Sync to view the Timing/Sync parameters. Observe the value of the Active Circuit Pack parameter to determine the active circuit pack for timing. Click Close. If required, select Fault → Timing/Sync Protection Switch→ Main Circuit Pack Timing Switch to perform a Manual switch.

Important! If the smart circuit pack to be reset is part of a protected pair of circuit packs and is the active circuit pack for transmission, then a manual switch must be performed before resetting the smart circuit pack. To obtain a current list of circuit packs select Reports → Status Lists → Pack, then click Shelf and Select. Determine if the smart circuit pack to be reset is part of a protected pair of circuit packs. Observe the value of the Switch State parameter for the smart circuit pack to be reset. If the Switch State parameter is active, the circuit pack is the active circuit pack for transmission. Click Close. If required, select Fault → Protection Switch to access the required protection group and perform a Normal Switch Type.

If the smart circuit pack to be reset is not part of a protected pair of circuit packs, the reset may cause loss of service. If the smart circuit pack to be reset is part of a protected pair of circuit packs and the companion circuit pack is failed, the reset may cause loss of service. Select Fault → Reset → Smart Pack. Click on the smart circuit pack to be reset and Select.
