Procedure 4-5: Provision unprotected operation on optical ports

- Overview

Use this procedure to perform the following:

  • Provision unprotected operation for low-speed optical ports when the Main slots are not equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW84 or LNW141 OLIU circuit packs.

  • Change pre Release 3.0 unprotected application to 0x1S1 or 0x1S2 application when the Main slots are not equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW84 or LNW141 OLIU circuit packs.

  • Provision unprotected operation for low-speed and high-speed optical ports when the Main slots are equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW84 or LNW141 OLIU circuit packs.

Unprotected operation when Main slots not equipped with Very Large Fabric circuit packs

When the Main slots are equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW84 or LNW141 OLIU circuit packs, the 1+1, Bidirectional 1+1, UPSR, and 0x1Sn unprotected applications may be mixed between port pairs of a function group. For example, a function group may have a 1+1 application on a port pair, a UPSR application on a port pair, and/or an unprotected application on a single port of a port pair.

However, two separate unprotected applications are not allowed on the same port pair of a Function group. For example, a Function group does not support an unprotected application on port 3 of the primary circuit pack and another unprotected application on port 3 of the protection circuit pack. However, a Function group does support an unprotected application on port 3 of the primary circuit pack and another unprotected application on port 4 of the protection circuit pack.

Unprotected operation when Main slots equipped with Very Large Fabric circuit packs

When the Main slots are equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW84 or LNW141 OLIU circuit packs, the 1+1, Bidirectional 1+1, UPSR, and 0x1 unprotected applications may be mixed between port pairs. For example, a Function group may have a 1+1 application on a port pair, a UPSR application on a port pair, and/or one or two unprotected 0x1 applications on a port pair.

When the Main slots are equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW84 or LNW141 OLIU circuit packs, two separate unprotected 0x1 applications are allowed on the same port pair. For example, a Function group supports an unprotected 0x1 application on port 3 of the primary circuit pack and another separate unprotected 0x1 application on port 3 of the protection circuit pack.

- Privilege level

You must log in as a Privileged or General user to complete this procedure.

- Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure:

  1. Refer to Required equipment and Before you begin in this chapter.

  2. Refer to Laser safety and Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.

  3. Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.

  4. Verify that the work instructions identify the required slots, circuit packs, and ports, and specify parameters/values to be provisioned.

  5. Verify that the slots have been equipped with circuit packs and any required pluggable transmission modules have been installed.
