Procedure 4-11: Install TMUX circuit packs

- Overview

Use this procedure to install the following TMUX circuit packs:

  • LNW18 12TMUX

  • LNW20 48TMUXDS3EC1

Important!

If installing LNW20 48TMUXDS3EC1 circuit packs, large fabric LNW41 OC-48 OLIU, Very Large Fabric LNW84 OC3/OC12/OC48 OLIU, or Very Large Fabric LNW141 OC-192 OLIU circuit packs are required in the Main slots to support portless operation.

If the Main slots are equipped with very large fabric (VLF) OLIU circuit packs, portless operation is supported on all ports.

If the Main slots are equipped with large fabric (non-VLF) circuit packs, portless operation is supported on the odd ports only. The even ports are unavailable.

If the Main slots are not equipped with large fabric or very large fabric OLIU circuit packs, attempts to provision portless operation will be denied.

Equipage guidelines

The circuit packs in a Function/Growth group must be the same circuit pack type. For example, both circuit packs in a Function/Growth group must be LNW18 TMUX circuit packs. If the circuit packs in a Function/Growth group are different circuit pack types, the system reports an unexpected CP type alarm and service may be impacted.

- Privilege level

You must log in as a Privileged, General, Maintenance, or Reports Only user to complete this procedure.

- Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure:

  1. Refer to Required equipment and Before you begin in this chapter.

  2. Refer to Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.

  3. Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.

  4. Ensure that the TMUX circuit packs are available for installation.

  5. Use the work instructions and select View → Equipment to access the circuit pack details and determine if the Main slots are equipped with large fabric or very large fabric circuit packs.

Steps

Complete the following steps to install TMUX circuit packs.

1

Determine the Function/Growth slots being equipped with TMUX circuit packs.

2

Holding the circuit pack vertically, rotate the circuit pack 90 degrees to the right (clockwise). The faceplate label with LNW18/20 should be on your right, next to the fan unit.

3

Open both faceplate latches and seat the circuit pack in the required Function/Growth slot by applying steady pressure to both faceplate latches.

Result:

For circuit packs with the current firmware installed, the FAULT LED will light for approximately 30 seconds and then the ACTIVE LED will light to indicate success.

For older circuit packs, the following sequence occurs:

  • The FAULT LED on the TMUX circuit pack lights for approximately 60 seconds,

  • then the ACTIVE LED flashes for approximately 20 seconds.

  • The FAULT LED goes off and the ACTIVE LED goes off indicating successful installation.

Select View → Refresh System View and the circuit pack appears in the WaveStar® CIT System View indicating successful installation.

4

Is a second (protection) TMUX circuit pack required in the companion Function/Growth slot?

If...

Then...

Yes

Continue with Step 5.

No

Verify that the companion Function/Growth slot is equipped with a circuit pack, a 177D Application Blank, or LNW98 Detectable Blank circuit pack.

If the companion Function/Growth slot is unequipped, insert a 177D Application Blank or LNW98 Detectable Blank circuit pack into the slot. If an LNW98 Detectable Blank circuit pack was installed, select View → Refresh Equipment. Click on the slot just equipped and Select to view the circuit pack in the system view.

Proceed to Step 7.

5

Holding the circuit pack vertically, rotate the circuit pack 90 degrees to the right (clockwise). The faceplate label with LNW18/20 should be on your right, next to the fan unit.

6

Open both faceplate latches and seat the second (protection) TMUX circuit pack in the companion Function/Growth slot by applying steady pressure to both faceplate latches.

Result:

For circuit packs with the current firmware installed, the FAULT LED will light for approximately 30 seconds to indicate success.

  • The new circuit pack appears in the WaveStar® CIT System View.

7

From the System View window, click the Alarm List button to verify that no alarms, loopbacks, protection switch lockouts, or protection switches are present for the ports on the circuit packs just installed.

Result:

The NE Alarm List appears. No alarms should be present for the circuit pack just installed.

8

If required at this time, provision the circuit pack and/or port parameters.
