Procedure 14-12: Test function unit equipment protection switching
Overview
Use this procedure to test Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend function unit 1+1 equipment protection switching for the low-speed electrical circuit packs.
Important!
Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend does not support 1+1 equipment protection switching for low-speed OLIUs and Ethernet circuit packs.
Before you begin
Prior to performing this procedure:

Refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter.

Refer to Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.

Obtain the work instructions for this procedure and verify that the protection group AID is specified.

Verify that the function unit to be tested contains a pair of identical circuit packs.
Steps
Complete the following steps to test 1+1 equipment protection switching in a function unit.

From the System View menu, select View → Protection. Result: The View Protection window opens. |

Select the required 1+1 Equipment Protection Group according to the work instructions and click Select. Result: The Protection Group parameters appear. |

Note the Active Unit (circuit pack) and click Close. |

From the System View menu, select Fault → Protection Switch. Result: The Switch Protection window opens. |

Select the required 1+1 Equipment Protection Group according to the work instructions and click Select. Result: The protection switch parameters appear. |

Important! If the protection slot is unequipped, has the wrong circuit pack type, or the circuit pack is failed, the protection switch request is denied. In the Protection Switch Mode panel, select Normal as the Switch Type from the pull-down menu. Then click Apply. Result: A warning appears asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes and Close. |

Repeat Step 1 through Step 3 to verify that the protection switch was performed and the active/standby states have reversed for the circuit packs in the Protection Group. End of steps |
