Procedure 14-18: Disable an FTP server on your PC

- Overview

Use this procedure to disable an FTP server application that is running on the personal computer being used for the WaveStar® CIT.

- Required equipment

Only a personal Computer (PC) with WaveStar® CIT software installed is required to perform this procedure.

- Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure:

  1. Refer to Before you begin in this chapter

  2. Because multiple FTP applications might be installed on this PC, you must be able to identify the program you wish to disable.

Steps

Complete the following steps to disable an FTP server application.

Which Windows Operating System are you using?

If...

Then

Windows 2000

Continue with Step 2.

Windows XP

Proceed to Step 7.

Windows 7

Proceed to Step 11.

For Windows 2000 operating systems, select Start → Settings → Control Panel.

Select Administrative Tools, then Computer Management, then Services and Applications, and then Services.

Locate the FTP file that is running and double click the FTP icon.

In the Service Status: field, click Stop.

STOP! End of Procedure.

For Windows XP operating systems, select Start → Control Panel.

Click the Performance and Maintenance icon, then the Administrative Tools icon, and then Services.

Locate the FTP service that is running and select it.

Click Stop, then Close.

For Windows 7 operating systems, select Start → Control Panel.

Click the Administrative Tools icon and then Services.

Locate the FTP service that is running and select it.

Click Stop, then Close.
