Procedure 2-9.3: Restore NE database using SFTP

- Overview

Use this procedure to restore the NE database using SFTP.

DANGER

NOTICE

Service-disruption hazard

Restoring the network element database can be service-affecting.

If provisioning changes were made after the last backup files were created, examine the Security Log and use the appropriate WaveStar® CIT commands to manually apply the recent provisioning changes to the just-restored database.

Steps

Complete the following steps to restore the NE database using SFTP.

1

From the System View menu, select Configuration → Software → Remote Restore.

Important!

The restore feature only works if the TID, the software release and the equipment that populated the NE slots has not changed since the last backup. Additional equipment is allowed. However, if any service-related parameters (for example, cross-connections) have been changed since the last backup file was created, those changes will be lost and service may be affected. These changes must be reentered. If the TID or the software release has changed or if different circuit pack types have been installed since the backup was performed, then the restore will not work.

2

In the pull-down Restore From/Via: menu, select SFTP.

3

Select the connection from the Profile pull-down menu and then proceed to Step 6. OR Enter information for a new profile as follows:

  1. In the Server panel, select IP and enter the address of the SFTP server.

  2. If necessary, enter the port (default is blank). Defining the port is not required for the restore to execute successfully. However, a value of 22 is valid if entered.

  3. In the User panel, enter the user name and password for the SFTP server.

4

If you entered connection information in Step 3 and wish to keep the information for future restores:

  1. Enter a new name in the Profile menu.

  2. Click Add to add the profile to the list.

  3. Click Save to save the list.

Entries to the Profile pull-down menu may be changed using the Modify, Apply, and Save buttons or removed using the Delete button.

5

In the pull-down Class: menu, select

  • RESTORE to restore the complete database.

If there are Ethernet cross-connections and the database is restored with Class: RESTORE, then the VLNC2, VLNC5x, and VLNC3x circuit packs are hard-reset. The circuit pack resets can cause an outage of up to two minutes.

  • RESTORE_CKTID to restore only the circuit IDs.

This restore option does not reset any device or circuit pack; it is hitless. This circuit ID restoration can be used when replacing a VLNC2 SYSCTL.

6

In the Source/Destination Directory Path panel, enter the location where the database information is stored. Enter the path and filename exactly as it was entered in Procedure 2-9.1: Backup NE database using SFTP or Procedure 2-9.2: Provision automatic database backup schedule using SFTP.

7

Click OK.

You will be asked to verify that you wish to restore from the directory that you entered above. Click Yes if your path is correct.
