Procedure 12-2.3: Verify active/standby status of circuit pack/port to be backed out

Important!

This is not a stand-alone procedure. Perform this procedure only as directed by another procedure.

Steps

Important!

This procedure is optional.

Complete the following steps to verify the active/standby status of the circuit pack/port to be backed out and perform manual switches to switch traffic away from an active circuit pack/port .

1

Important!

If the circuit pack to be backed out is the active circuit pack for timing and the circuit pack is removed, the system performs an automatic protection switch and subsequent transmission hits (less than 60 ms) will occur. If desired, perform this step to determine the timing state of the circuit pack to be backed out.

Select View → Timing/Sync. Observe the value of the Active Circuit Pack parameter to determine the active circuit pack for timing. Click Close.

2

Important!

If the circuit pack to be backed out is the active circuit pack for timing, an optional manual timing switch can be performed before backing out the circuit pack. Transmission hits (less than 60 ms) will occur for each separate protection switch.

If the circuit pack to be backed out is not the active circuit pack for timing, proceed to Step 4.

To perform an optional manual timing switch, select Fault → Timing/Sync Protection Switch → Main Circuit Pack Timing Switch. Select the Manual Switch Command and click OK.

Result:

A dialog box appears asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes.

3

If required, repeat Step 1 to verify that the circuit pack to be backed out is not the active circuit pack for timing.

4

Important!

If the circuit pack/port to be backed out is the active circuit pack/port for transmission and the circuit pack/port is removed, the system performs an automatic protection switch and subsequent transmission hits (less than 60 ms) will occur. If desired, perform this step to determine the transmission state of the circuit pack/port to be backed out.

Select Reports → Path Protection List and observe the value of the Current Role parameter for the m()-()-() paths supported by the circuit pack to be replaced (Ring 1 for slot M1 or Ring 2 for slot M2). Record the active paths supported by the circuit pack to be replaced). Click Close.

5

Important!

If the circuit pack/port to be backed out is an active circuit pack/port for transmission, optional manual switches can be performed before backing out the circuit pack. In UPSRs, each path supported by the circuit pack/port to be backed out must be switched separately. Transmission hits (less than 60 ms) will occur for each separate protection switch.

If the circuit pack/port to be backed out is not the active circuit pack/port for transmission, proceed to Step 7.

To perform an optional manual transmission switch, select Fault → Protection Switch. Expand Path Protection, click on the required m-1-() path and Select. Select the Manual Switch Type and click Apply.

Result:

A dialog box appears asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes.

The system reports a manual switch condition for the affected path.

6

Repeat Step 5 for each path supported by the circuit pack/port to be backed out. Click Close.

7

If required, repeat Step 4 to verify that the circuit pack/port to be backed out is not the active circuit pack/port for transmission.

STOP! To complete backing out the UPSR upgrade, return to the procedure that directed you to perform this procedure.
