Procedure 4-12: Install VLNC35 Fast Ethernet circuit pack

Overview

Use this procedure to install the VLNC35 Fast Ethernet Private Line circuit pack.

The VLNC35 circuit pack is supported in the C slot in any compatible configuration that includes a VLNC50/52 circuit pack in either Main slot.

Privilege level

You must log in as a Privileged, General, Maintenance, or Reports Only user to complete this procedure.

Required equipment

Refer to the list of Class 1 SFP transceivers that are approved by Alcatel-Lucent in Procedure 4-3: Install pluggable transmission modules.

Refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS-5) Installation and System Turn-Up Guide, as required, when removing and/or installing pluggable transmission modules.

Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure:

Refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter.
Refer to Laser safety and Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.
Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.
Ensure that the appropriate Ethernet circuit pack is available for installation.
If required, ensure that correct pluggable transmission modules are available for installation in the VLNC35 Fast Ethernet circuit pack.

Procedure


1	Important! Signal performances may be degraded if the connections and couplings are not cleaned properly. Ensure all optical fiber connectors and couplings are properly cleaned, if required. Reference: Procedure 14-3: Clean optical fibers, dual LC adapters and LC lightguide buildouts (LBOs)
2	Important! Pluggable transmission modules are shipped with a dust plug installed into the optical ports to maintain cleanliness during storage and/or transportation. It is recommended that the dust plug be kept in place to maintain cleanliness until the optical fiber is connected. With proper care and handling, cleaning the pluggable transmission modules should not be necessary. If required, clean any pluggable transmission modules being used. 3	Perform the following: Holding the circuit pack vertically, rotate the circuit pack 90 degrees to the right (clockwise). The faceplate LEDs should be on your right. Open the faceplate latch and seat the circuit pack in the C slot by applying steady pressure to the faceplate and latch assembly.
4	Secure the circuit pack in the shelf using the latch lever. Result: The circuit pack FAULT LED lights for approximately 2 minutes then goes off, indicating successful installation. The circuit pack appears in the WaveStar^® CIT System View. If responses are not correct, replace the circuit pack. 5	If required, install pluggable transmission modules. Reference: Procedure 4-3: Install pluggable transmission modules
6	From the System View window, click the Alarm List button to obtain the NE Alarm List. Verify that no alarms, protection switches, protection switch lockouts, and loopbacks are present for the ports on the circuit pack just installed. Result: No alarms should be present for the circuit packs just installed.
7	If required at this time, provision the VLNC35 circuit pack/LAN port/VCG for service. Reference: Procedure 4-13: Provision VLNC35 circuit pack LAN port/VCG for service End of steps
