Procedure 5-19: Clear "fan shelf failed" or "hardware failure" alarm

- Overview

This procedure is used to clear a fan shelf failed or hardware failure alarm.

- Required equipment

In addition to the equipment listed in Required equipment, the following equipment is also required:

  • Small phillips-head screwdriver

  • Small flat-blade screwdriver

  • Spare Fan Unit (if necessary)

- Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure:

  1. Refer to Before you begin in this chapter.

  2. Refer to Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.

Steps

Complete the following steps to clear a fan shelf failed or hardware failure alarm.

Are the power indicator (PWR ON) LEDs lighted on the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 fan unit?

If...

Then...

Yes

Proceed to Step 4 and replace shelf.

No

Continue with Step 2.

The fan unit has no power. Check power and alarm cables. If cables are not connected, install power and alarm cables to the shelf and tighten screw locks.

Is the fan unit running and working properly (PWR ON LEDs lighted, FAN FAULT LED off)? The Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 fan unit needs three fans operating to provide the minimum required airflow.

If...

Then...

Yes

STOP! End of Procedure.

No

Continue next step and replace fan unit.

Unscrew the captive screw that secures the fan unit to the shelf chassis.

Slide the old fan unit out from shelf chassis.

Slide the new fan unit back into the shelf chassis. Tighten the captive screw.
