Use this procedure to replace the following circuit packs:
Refer to the list of Class 1 SFP transceivers that are approved by Alcatel-Lucent in Procedure 6-6: Replace pluggable transmission module.
Refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS-5) Installation and System Turn-Up Guide, as required, when removing and/or installing pluggable transmission modules.
Important!
This procedure assumes that the replacement circuit pack is loaded with same software version as the original circuit pack.
Prior to performing this procedure:
Refer to Required equipment in this chapter.
Refer to Laser safety and Electrostatic discharge information Chapter 1, Safety.
Ensure that the required circuit pack and software version is available for replacement.
If required, ensure that the correct pluggable transmission modules are available for replacement.
Complete the following steps to replace a VLNC4x or VLNC6x circuit pack.
1 |
Important! The VLNC40/42/42B Ethernet Aggregator circuit pack may be equipped with up to four pluggable transmission modules. The VLNC60/61/62 Circuit Emulator circuit pack may be equipped with up to two pluggable transmission modules. The VLNC64 Circuit Emulation Mini-Hub circuit pack may be equipped with up to three pluggable transmission modules. If required, disconnect the optical cables and remove any pluggable transmission modules from the circuit pack. Reference: Procedure 6-6: Replace pluggable transmission module |
2 |
Remove the circuit pack by grasping the inner edge of the locking lever, and applying a constant pressure, pull the lever forward and remove the circuit pack. |
3 |
Ensure that all optical fiber connectors and couplings are properly cleaned on the replacement Ethernet circuit pack. Important! Signal performance may be degraded and the fiber interface surfaces damaged if the connections and couplings are not cleaned properly. Reference: Procedure 6-17: Clean optical fibers, dual LC adapters and LC lightguide buildouts (LBOs) |
4 |
Important! Pluggable transmission modules are shipped with a dust cover installed into the optical ports to maintain cleanliness during storage and/or transportation. It is recommended that the dust cover be kept in place to maintain cleanliness until the optical fiber is connected. With proper care and handling, cleaning the pluggable transmission modules should not be necessary. If required, clean the pluggable transmission module. Reference: Procedure 6-18: Clean pluggable transmission module |
5 |
Holding the replacement circuit pack vertically, rotate the circuit pack 90 degrees to the right (clockwise). The faceplate latch should be on your left. |
6 |
Open the faceplate latch and seat the replacement circuit pack in the slot by applying steady pressure to the faceplate and latch assembly. Secure the replacement circuit pack in the shelf using the latch lever. Result: The circuit pack FAULT LED lights for approximately 30 seconds then goes off, indicating successful installation. If the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 shelf is equipped with the VLNC2 circuit pack, select View → Refresh System View and the replacement circuit pack will appear in the WaveStar® CIT System View. |
7 |
If required, install the pluggable transmission modules and reconnect the optical cables. Reference: Procedure 6-6: Replace pluggable transmission module |
8 |
Connect the PC to the replacement circuit pack and configure the initial parameters for connectivity as required. Reference: Procedure 6-20: Configure VLNC4x/VLNC6x for in-band or out-of-band connectivity |
9 |
Important! This procedure assumes that the replacement circuit pack is loaded with the same software version as the original circuit pack. Verify that the replacement circuit pack is loaded with the same software version as the original circuit pack. If required, copy the required software from a TFTP server to the replacement circuit pack. Locate a copy of the most recent configuration data and restore the configuration data to the replacement circuit pack.
