Procedure 6-8: Software generic copy and upgrade to a remote shelf
Overview
Use this procedure to copy the software generic from an in-service Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 shelf equipped with the SYSCTL and VLNC5x circuit packs to the following types of remote NEs.
Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX and Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend can accept and store the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 software generic in their second dormant area.
Important!
This procedure requires that the software generic to be copied is installed in the dormant area of the source Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 shelf. You must also have OSI connectivity (using your OSI LAN or DCC) between the source and the destination NEs.

Steps
Complete the following steps to copy the software generic from a source Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 shelf to a supported remote NE.

Establish a WaveStar® CIT session and log in to the source shelf (the shelf with the desired generic in the dormant area). Reference: Procedure 6-2: Connect personal computer (PC) and establish WaveStar® CIT session | ||||||

From the System View menu, select Configuration → Software → Copy Software. Result: The Copy Software window opens. | ||||||

In the Destination TID: field, enter the TID of the remote NE to which you wish to copy the NE Generic Software and click OK. Important! During the remote copy, the destination shelf produces the remote install/copy program IP Standing Condition (SC) autonomous message. The source shelf produces the copy program IP Standing Condition (SC) autonomous message. If logged in to the NE, each condition is visible in the alarm list (click Alarm List from the System View) and the NE History log (select Reports → NE History Log from the System View). If your destination NE is equipped with a factory-fresh SYSCTL, you will not be able to log in to the shelf prior to the completion of cpy-prgm and the automatic apply. Therefore, you will not see the remote install/copy program IP condition in this scenario. Result: While the copy is in progress, a Progress Indicator window is present. The download takes approximately 5 minutes. The copy may be cancelled any time by clicking Cancel on the Progress Indicator window. | ||||||

When the software copy is complete, a message appears, stating Copy Software Complete. Click OK. Result: The software is now in the dormant area of the remote shelf (the only dormant area in Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 or the dormant area in Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX/Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend). | ||||||

Important! Do NOT insert a new circuit pack in the shelf until after you apply the new software generic and clear the dormant/exec version mismatch condition. Do you wish to apply (activate) the software generic that you recently copied to the dormant area of the remote NE?
