How do I export alarms to a file?

Exporting alarms to a CSV file

You can export the alarms in an alarm view to a CSV file. You can export all alarms in a view, for example all current alarms or all historical alarms, export currently selected alarms, or export alarms displayed with the current filter.

When alarms are exported to a CSV file, the following rules are applied to the data:

  • Empty fields become empty cells

  • Null fields become a - character

  • ENUM fields become the ENUM’s display value; boolean ENUMs are exported as TRUE/FALSE.

  • When performing an export using the Export selected action dates are displayed according to the NSP’s timezone settings and the locale of the browser that triggered the export; when using the Export filtered or Export all actions, only the NSP timezone settings are considered.

  • Localization is supported for the column name, data, and the file name

The exported data is in plain text; if the Custom Text or Additional Text fields contain sensitive data that should not be exported, ensure that these columns are not displayed before performing an export.

Before performing an export, ensure that your browser is configured to accept downloads.

Note: To avoid losing data, do not navigate away from the alarm view, close the tab, or close your browser while the download is in progress. Depending on the number of alarms in the database and the applied UAC or filters, it can take several minutes to generate the file.

Limitations

The following limitations apply when exporting alarms.

  • Role-based access does not apply to the historical and merged alarm lists

  • You cannot export more than 500 000 alarms. Use a filter and the Export filtered action to reduce the number of alarms to export.

  • To export all alarms on the IAP, object impact list, and email policies views, remove any filters and use the Export filtered action. The Export All action is not available on these views.

  • For alarm lists, alarm data exported using Export all or Export filtered may differ from the data displayed in the UI, as the alarm data is collected from the database and will reflect changes that have occurred since the data in the UI was last refreshed.

  • When an alarm export is already in progress when you trigger a new Export all or Export filtered export in an alarm list, the export file generated only contains the following message: Export file request terminated. An export operation is already in progress.

Steps

Navigate to any alarms list (including the Email Policies and Squelch configuration panels), or an alarm matrix or diagram such as Unhealthy NEs, Alarm Statistics, or the Root Causes diagram.

To export data in an alarm list, at the end of the alarm table columns click the Table settings & actions button.

  1. To export the alarms you have currently selected, select Export selected.

  2. To export the alarms currently displayed in the alarm view based on any applied filters, select Export filtered.

  3. To export all alarms in the current view, select Export current page.

To export data in a matrix or diagram, click the More button and select Export Data to CSV.

Depending on your browser configuration, you may receive a prompt to save or accept the download. Save the file as appropriate to begin downloading the file.
