Disaster recovery of the Lucent CM system

Purpose

This topic describes the steps to recover a Lucent CM system.

Restore versus disaster recovery

During a regular restore operation, there is an existing Lucent CM system.

In a disaster recovery, a Lucent CM system is started from scratch and the Lucent CM nodes must be rebuilt manually by the administrator from scratch.

Example

The hardware for a complete 7-node Lucent CM system consisting of three application nodes and four database nodes forming two database segments fails. A backup file for the Lucent CM system is available. Only three spare servers are available.

The data for the full 7-node system can be recovered on the three spare servers. One server is used to recover the application node and two servers are used to recover the database nodes. One server is used to recover one database segment, the second server is used to recover the other database segment.

Recover the Lucent CM system

Task StepsPerform the following steps to recover a Lucent CM system:

1

Recreate Lucent CM system with the same configuration information as is contained in the backup file:

  1. Perform Install initial Lucent CM node to install the initial Lucent CM node

  2. Perform Add, modify, or delete a node to add Lucent CM nodes.

To recreate the nodes, use the system.properties file that is part of the backup file to retrieve information about:

  • Software version number

  • VIP host name

  • Internal and external host names

2

Perform Restore the Lucent CM system to restore the system.

3

If hardware was unavailable during the recovery and the system was recovered using fewer nodes then the original system had, the nodes can be recovered when the hardware becomes available.

Use Recover a Node to recover a node when hardware becomes available.
