This topic describes the steps to install Red Hat Linux on a Lucent CM server.
Important! This procedure must be performed on all Lucent CM server nodes.
You only need the first three CD-ROMs to complete installation.
Important! The installation steps are divided into groups of related installation settings. This division is for ease of use only. The installation is performed as one single continuous procedure.
Perform the following steps to install Red Hat Linux:

Insert CD 1 in the CD-ROM drive and reboot by entering CTRL-ALT-DEL. Result: The server boots and Red Hat Install automatically launches. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

Follow the instructions of the installation program and select or enter the following, when prompted:

Define network devices eth0 and eth1:

Continue with the following configuration steps:

Continue with the following configuration steps. Select only the options that are listed in the table. Leave the default values for other options. The numbers in the parentheses are the numbers that are listed when you have completed the selections.
Result: Installation starts and you are prompted to install CD-ROMs periodically until installation is completed. The order of disk is: | |||||||||||||||||||||||

When the Graphical Interface (X) Configuration screen displays, check Skip X configuration and click Next. Result: The Congratulation screen displays. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

Remove the CD-ROM and click Exit. Result: The Lucent CM system reboots. End of steps |
By default, during installation of Red Hat, the /etc/hosts file is modified by adding the node host name and the fully qualified host name. Edit the /etc/hosts file to removed the host name and the fully qualified host name.
The exact content of the /etc/hosts file must be:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
When installation is complete, the following installation logs are available:
/root/anaconda-ks.cfg
/root/install.log
