Install Red Hat Linux

Purpose

This topic describes the steps to install Red Hat Linux on a Lucent CM server.

Important!  This procedure must be performed on all Lucent CM server nodes.

Before you begin

You only need the first three CD-ROMs to complete installation.

Install Red Hat Linux

Important!  The installation steps are divided into groups of related installation settings. This division is for ease of use only. The installation is performed as one single continuous procedure.

Task StepsPerform the following steps to install Red Hat Linux:

Insert CD 1 in the CD-ROM drive and reboot by entering CTRL-ALT-DEL.

Result:  The server boots and Red Hat Install automatically launches.

Follow the instructions of the installation program and select or enter the following, when prompted:

Notes:

Total install size must be 1467 Mb after configuration.

Result: Installation starts and you are prompted to install CD-ROMs periodically until installation is completed. The order of disk is:

  • Disk 2

  • Disk 3

  • Disk 4

  • Disk 1

When the Graphical Interface (X) Configuration screen displays, check Skip X configuration and click Next.

Result:  The Congratulation screen displays.

Remove the CD-ROM and click Exit.

Result:  The Lucent CM system reboots.

Modify hosts file

By default, during installation of Red Hat, the /etc/hosts file is modified by adding the node host name and the fully qualified host name. Edit the /etc/hosts file to removed the host name and the fully qualified host name.

The exact content of the /etc/hosts file must be:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
