Important!
This is not a stand-alone procedure. Perform this procedure only as directed by another procedure.
Important!
Compatible OC-48 OLIU circuit packs include LNW27 (Series 1:6 and later), LNW29 (Series 1:6 and later), LNW32, LNW76 (Series 1:6 and later), LNW82, LNW202, and LNW221–259 (Series 1:6 and later) OC-48 OLIU circuit packs.
When optical fibers are disconnected during this procedure, inc. LOS, section DCC channel failed, and neighbor SYSCTL CP unavailable alarms are reported. The holdover mode active condition may also be reported depending on the provisioned system timing mode.
When optical fibers are connected during this procedure, Default K-bytes alarms are reported temporarily.
Complete the following steps to back out an OC-48 BLSR to OC-192 BLSR upgrade at a node originally equipped with a compatible OC-48 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M2.
1 |
Determine the current status of the upgrade at the node.
| ||||||
2 |
If required, verify the active/standby status of the OC-192 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M2 and perform manual switches to switch traffic away from an active circuit pack. Reference: Procedure 12-12.3: Verify active/standby status of circuit pack to be replaced
3 |
Important! If the circuit pack is active for timing and/or transmission, opening the latch causes timing and/or transmission switches. Transmission hits (less than 60 ms) will occur for each separate protection switch. Open the lower faceplate latch on the OC-192 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M2. Disconnect the optical fibers from the OC-192 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M2. Then replace the OC-192 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M2 with the original OC-48 OLIU circuit pack. Result: A transmission hit will occur after the OC-48 OLIU is inserted. The transmission hit is the result of an internal system timing adjustment to accommodate different line rates in the two Main slots. The original OC-48 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M2 is tested and autoprovisioned. The system reports an inc. OC192 LOS alarm, an unexpected circuit pack type condition, and a Line Automatic Switch condition for Main slot M2. If the provisioned system timing mode is External, the system may also report an inc. DS1 sync. ref. OOL alarm. Reference: Procedure 4-2: Install OLIU circuit packs in Main slots
4 |
At both ends of the optical span to be backed out, perform the following to connect the original OC-48 circuit pack in Main slot M2 and the required OC-48 circuit pack/port at the opposite end of the original OC-48 optical span:
Result: The inc. OC192 LOS alarm and Line Automatic Switch condition clear. Transmission is now supported on the original OC-48 optical span. Reference: Procedure 14-4: Perform connection and verification of optical facility Note: If Configuration → Update System → Upgrade has not been performed on the current node, proceed to Step 6.
5 |
Important! The UPD/INIT button does not work during this upgrade. At the System View select Configuration → Update System → Upgrade. Select main-2 as the Directed Slot Choice and click OK. Result: A dialog box appears asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes. The unexpected circuit pack type condition for Main slot M2 clears, and the system reports an unexpected circuit pack type condition for Main slot M1.
6 |
If required, verify the active/standby status of the OC-192 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M1 and perform manual switches to switch traffic away from an active circuit pack. Reference: Procedure 12-12.3: Verify active/standby status of circuit pack to be replaced
7 |
If an OC-192 OLIU circuit pack is connected to an OC-48 OLIU circuit pack equipment damage may occur. Do not reconnect the optical fibers until instructed to do so. The optical fibers are reconnected after the OC-192 OLIU circuit pack is backed out at each end of the optical span. Important! If the circuit pack is active for timing and/or transmission, opening the latch causes timing and/or transmission switches. Transmission hits (less than 60 ms) will occur for each separate protection switch. Open the lower faceplate latch on the OC-192 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M1. Disconnect the optical fibers from the OC-192 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M1. Then replace the OC-192 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M1 with the original OC-48 OLIU circuit pack. Result: A transmission hit will occur after the OC-192 OLIU is removed. The transmission hit is the result of an internal system timing adjustment to accommodate different line rates in the two Main slots. The original OC-48 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M1 is tested and autoprovisioned. The unexpected circuit pack type condition for Main slot M1 clears. The system reports an inc. OC48 LOS alarm and a Line Automatic Switch condition for Main slot M1. Alarms may also be reported at other nodes in the ring. Reference: Procedure 4-2: Install OLIU circuit packs in Main slots The following figure shows the state of the current node and the adjacent optical spans. STOP! To complete backing out the BLSR upgrade, return to the procedure that directed you to perform this procedure. End of steps |
