Procedure 11-29: Provision FC-DPORT DATA port parameters

- Overview

This procedure provides a list of provisionable parameters for the LNW73/LNW73C FC-DPORT ports.

- Privilege level

You must login as either a Privileged or General user to complete this procedure.

- Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure, refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter and you must have complete work instructions for this procedure that detail:

  • The network configuration and the terminating nodes.

  • The values to be set for each parameter.

Steps

Use this procedure as a reference for provisionable DATA port parameters.

1

Use the ed-dport TL1 command or select Configuration → Equipment from the System View menu for the majority of parameters. Expand the details for the circuit pack, select (highlight) the DATA Port, then click Select.

Result:

Exceptions to provisioning parameters from the Configuration → Equipment command will be noted in this procedure.

2

Use Table 11-11, ED-DPORT command provisionable parameters as reference to provision the necessary DATA port parameters from your work instructions.

Important!

Some of the parameters may have already been provisioned from earlier procedures for establishing service.

3

Use Procedure 6-10: Assign alarm severity assignment profile to provision ASAPs.

ED-DPORT command parameters

Table 11-11, ED-DPORT command provisionable parameters lists the provisionable parameters for the ed-dport command:

Table 11-11: ED-DPORT command provisionable parameters

Parameter

Description

epmode

Port Monitoring Mode may have one of the following values:

  • AUTO (initial value)

  • NMON (not monitored)

  • IS (monitored)

When a port is provisioned in the AUTO state, it will automatically transition to the in-service (IS) state upon detection on the port of a valid input.

eppm

Data Port PM Enable. Use the Performance → Prov PM Settings command from the System View menu to set this performance monitoring parameter to one of the following values:

  • Enable

  • Disable (initial value)

This parameter controls whether performance monitoring is enabled or disabled for the specified port.

tcamd

TCA Monitoring Mode. This parameter specifies whether performance monitoring Threshold Crossing Alert reporting is enabled or disabled for the port. Use the Performance → Prov PM Settings command from the System View menu to set this performance monitoring parameter to one of the following values:

  • Enable

  • Disable (initial value)

TCA reporting will not begin until tcamd is enabled and port monitoring mode is enabled (eppm = Enabled), and the port is in service (epmode = IS).

lnrate

Line Rate. This parameter sets the line rate of the addressed port(s). This parameter is valid when the circuit pack Data Type is set to FC-FICON.

Values:

  • 1G - 1.0625 Gbps (initial value)

  • 2G - 2.1250 Gbps.

2G rate is only supported on ports 1 and 3. In order to set port 1 to 2G, port 2 must not have a cross-connection and is unused. In order to set port 3 to 2G, port 4 must not have a cross-connection and is unused.

admin

Port Administration Control. This parameter is used to enable/disable a port. It will enable/disable all frames to and from a port. Values:

  • ENABLE - Enables frames to/from port.

  • DISABLE - Disables frames to/from port.

rcf

Remote Client Fail. This parameter enables/disables Remote Client Fail message detection and generation.

Values:

  • ENABLE - Enables Remote Client Fail message (Initial Value)

  • DISABLE - Disables Remote Client Fail message.

This parameter must be enabled at both ends of the circuit in order to function.

rcf-linkdown

Remote Client Fail Link Shutdown. When rcf is enabled, this parameter controls link shutdown by Remote Client Fail message reception.

Values:

  • ENABLE - Enables link shutdown (Initial Value)

  • DISABLE - Disables link shutdown.

Link Loss Return (LLR) is a feature on some external equipment. External equipment with LLR enabled will stop sending link pulses back to the LNW73/LNW73C if the LNW73/LNW73C has stopped transmitting link pulses to the external equipment due to a link shutdown performed by the Remote Client Fail Link Shutdown feature. Therefore, when the LNW73/LNW73C is connected to equipment that has the Link Loss Return feature enabled, the Remote Client Fail Link Shutdown (rcf-linkdown) option should be disabled to avoid a link shutdown locking problem. Customers planning to use the CSF feature with RCF-Linkdown enabled should disable LLR on the external equipment.

gfptype

GFP Encapsulation Type. This parameter sets the User Payload Identifier for GFP Client Frames. This parameter is valid when the circuit pack Data Type is set to FC-FICON.

Values:

  • FC - Transparent Fibre Channel (initial value) Used for synchronous full rate

  • FICON - Transparent FICON. Used for synchronous full rate.

  • ASYNC-FC - Asynchronous Transparent Fibre Channel. Used for full and sub-rate rate, supports distance extension.

sync_ping

Synchronous Ping. This parameter enables/disables WAN ping in synchronous GFP. This parameter is valid when portgfptype is set to FC or FICON or when the circuit pack Data Type is set to ESCON.

Values:

  • Enable - Enables pinging. Enabling this parameter allows the measurement of the WAN propagation delay. Delay is retrievable by prop_delay in RTRV-DPORT or by Propagation Delay in View → Data → Ethernet/Data/VCG Port.

  • Disable - Disables pinging (initial value).

compr

Data Compression. This parameter enables/disables data compression provisioning on an LNW73C port. This parameter is valid when port gfptype is set to async-FC.

Values:

  • Enable - Enables data compression. Data Compression is only operational if both ends are provisioned for compression, cross-connections are provisioned across the network, and vcgtribs are enabled in both directions. The data compression operational status, compro, will only become enabled when the VCG is operational between both ends (Data Port Status [pstat] value is TRANS [Transparent Operation] or PRT-LNK-INIT [Port Link Initialization]) and the BB Credit settings on the attached Fibre Channel device is set for 8 or fewer credits.

  • Disable - Disables data compression (initial value).
