Use this procedure to discontinue end-to-end DS3 or EC-1 service.
Important!
This procedure assumes that the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend is in service and that a DS3/EC-1 port is being discontinued.
Prior to performing this procedure:
Refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter.
Refer to Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.
Verify that the work instructions specify the terminating nodes, pass-through nodes (UPSRs only), DS3/EC-1 port addresses, and cross-connections to be deleted.
Complete the following steps to discontinue end-to-end DS3 or EC-1 service.
1 |
Using the work instructions, determine the DS3/EC-1 port to be discontinued.
2 |
At the terminating nodes, click the Alarm List button to obtain an NE Alarm List and verify that no alarms are present. Clear all alarms before continuing this procedure. Reference: Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer Extend (DMXtend) Alarm Messages and Trouble Clearing Guide, 365-372-326
3 |
Important! This step may activate the office alarms. The audible alarm may be suppressed by pressing the ACO push-button. At the cross-connect panel or equivalent connection point at the terminating nodes, remove the DS3/EC-1 signal associated with the port being discontinued. Result: The FAULT LEDs begin flashing on the circuit pack with signals removed.
4 |
At the terminating nodes, click the Alarm List button to obtain an NE Alarm List and verify that the correct DS3/EC-1 signal was removed.
5 |
At the terminating nodes, select Configuration →Update System → Update States to clear the DS3/EC-1 LOS alarms. Result: The flashing FAULT LEDs go off.
6 |
At the terminating nodes, click the Alarm List button to obtain an NE Alarm List and verify that the DS3/EC-1 LOS alarm is cleared.
7 |
At the terminating nodes, select View → Equipment to access the required DS3/EC-1 ports and verify that the Port Monitoring Mode changed to AUTO.
8 |
Determine the cross-connections for the circuit being discontinued using the work instructions, or at the terminating nodes and non-terminating nodes (UPSRs only), select View → Cross-Connections to obtain a current list of cross-connections. Record the source addresses (SRC) of the cross-connections to be deleted.
9 |
At the terminating nodes, select Configuration → Cross-Connections to access the Cross-Connection Wizard and delete the add/drop cross-connections for all DS3/EC-1 service being removed. (Refer to the cross-connection source addresses recorded in Step 8.) Important! DS3/EC-1 slots cannot be unequipped without an alarm until all port cross-connections are removed.
10 |
If required, at each pass-through node (UPSRs only) select Configuration → Cross-Connections to access the Cross-Connection Wizard and delete the pass-through cross-connections for all DS3/EC-1 service being removed. (Refer to the cross-connection source addresses recorded in Step 8.)
11 |
Important! The LNW16 circuit packs have 12 DS3/EC-1 ports. The LNW19/19B circuit packs have 48 DS3/EC-1 ports. The LNW39/LNW391 circuit packs have 16 DS1 ports and 3 DS3 ports. If all ports on the circuit pack are being discontinued, you may remove the circuit pack, if required.
12 |
Have circuit packs been removed?
| ||||||||
13 |
If circuit packs have been removed, update the internal equipment list. From the System View menu select Configuration → Update System → Update Inventory. Click OK and proceed to Step 15.
14 |
If circuit packs have not been removed, provision the Port Monitoring Mode of the DS3/EC-1 ports to AUTO, NMON, or IS as required. From the System View menu select Configuration → Equipment, expand the required circuit pack details, then select the DS3/EC-1 port. Under the Fault Management section, select NMON (Not Monitored), AUTO (Automatic), or IS (In Service) for the Port Monitoring Mode . Important! If the Port Monitoring Mode is NMON, the port is not monitored/alarmed, and the port will not automatically transition to the in service state if a valid signal is detected. If the Port Monitoring Mode is AUTO, the port automatically transitions to the in service state if a valid signal is detected and the port is monitored/alarmed. If the Port Monitoring Mode is provisioned to IS, the port is monitored and alarms are reported.
15 |
At the terminating nodes and non-terminating nodes (UPSRs only), click the Alarm List button to obtain an NE Alarm List and verify that no alarms are present. End of steps |
