Procedure 4-9.1: Install LNW6, LNW7, LNW8/LNW801 DS1/E1 circuit packs

- Overview

Use this procedure to install the following circuit packs:

  • LNW6 28DS1

The LNW6 is DA'd and is no longer available

  • LNW7 28DS1PM

  • LNW8 56DS1/E1

  • LNW801 56DS1/E1

Important!

If the Main slots are equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW84 or LNW141 OLIU circuit packs, the LNW6 and LNW7 DS1 circuit packs are not supported.

Equipage guidelines

The system does not support mixing standard density (LNW6 and LNW7) DS1 circuit packs in the same Function group. The circuit packs in a Function group must be the same circuit pack type. For example, both circuit packs in a Function group must be standard density LNW6 or LNW7 circuit packs. If the circuit packs in a Function group are different circuit pack types, the system reports an unexpected CP type alarm and service may be impacted.

Beginning in Release 9.1, the system supports mixing high-density (LNW8 and LNW801) DS1 circuit packs in the same Function group. In this case, the circuit packs in a Function group can be the same circuit pack type. For example, both circuit packs can be high-density LNW8 circuit packs, or both circuit packs must be high-density LNW801 circuit packs, or the circuit packs in a Function group can be an LNW8 and an LNW801.

Steps

Complete the following steps to install LNW6, LNW7 and LNW8/LNW801 circuit packs.

1

Holding the circuit pack vertically, rotate the circuit pack 90 degrees to the right (clockwise). The faceplate label with LNW6/LNW7/LNW8/LNW801 should be on your right, next to the fan unit.

2

Open both faceplate latches and seat the circuit pack in the required Function/Growth slot by applying steady pressure to both faceplate latches.

Result:

The FAULT LED on the circuit pack lights for approximately 30 seconds then goes off and then ACTIVE LED lights, indicating successful installation. (Firmware updates may take place that add additional wait time.)

Select View → Refresh System View and the circuit pack appears in the WaveStar® CIT System View indicating successful installation.

3

Is a second (protection) circuit pack required in the companion Function/Growth slot?

If...

Then...

Yes

Continue with Step 4.

No

Verify that the companion Function/Growth slot is equipped with a circuit pack, a 177D Application Blank, or LNW98 Detectable Blank circuit pack.

If the companion Function/Growth slot is unequipped, insert a 177D Application Blank or LNW98 Detectable Blank circuit pack into the slot. If an LNW98 Detectable Blank circuit pack was installed, select View → Refresh Equipment. Click on the slot just equipped and Select to view the circuit pack in the system view.

Proceed to Step 6.

4

Holding the circuit pack vertically, rotate the circuit pack 90 degrees to the right (clockwise). The faceplate label with LNW6/LNW7/LNW8/LNW801 should be on your right, next to the fan unit.

5

Open both faceplate latches and seat a second (protection) circuit pack in the companion Function/Growth slot by applying steady pressure to both faceplate latches.

Result:

The FAULT LED on the circuit pack lights for approximately 30 seconds then goes off, indicating successful installation. (Firmware updates may take place that add additional wait time.)

Select View → Refresh System View and the circuit pack appears in the WaveStar® CIT System View indicating successful installation.

6

From the System View window, click the Alarm List button to verify that no alarms, loopbacks, protection switch lockouts, or protection switches are present for the ports on the circuit packs just installed.

Result:

The NE Alarm List appears. No alarms should be present for the circuit packs just installed.

7

If required at this time, provision the circuit pack and/or port parameters.
