Procedure 7-25: Edit, delete, or enter SNMP V3 users

Overview

Use this procedure to provision SNMP V3 management access to the system.

To provision SNMP V1-2 management access to the system, refer to Procedure 7-6: Edit, delete, or enter SNMP V1-2 users.

To provision SNMP V3 tables, refer to Procedure 7-26: Provision SNMP V3 tables.

To provision SNMP contact/location information and enable/disable SNMP authentication failure traps, refer to Procedure 7-5: Provision system SNMP management features.

Privilege level

You must log in as a Privileged user to complete this procedure.

Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure:

Refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter.
Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.
If you want to view, print, or save a file of current SNMP V3 users, select Administration → Security → View SNMP Users from the System View menu.

Steps

Perform the following steps to edit, delete, or enter SNMP V3 users.

From the System View menu, select Administration → Security → Provision SNMP V3 Users.

Result:

The Provision SNMP V3 Users window opens to allow you to add, modify, or delete an SNMP V3 user.

Tthe maximum number of provisionable SNMP users is 16. The NE maintains 4 default SNMP users for use in SNMPv3 applications.

Determine the required provisioning.

If...	Then...
add a new SNMP V3 user,	Continue with Step 3.
modify an existing SNMP V3 user,	Proceed to Step 4.
delete an existing SNMP V3 user,	Proceed to Step 5.

Perform the following to ADD A NEW USER:

Select New User in the SNMP User ID Panel.
Enter the User Identifier as a case-sensitive alphanumeric string of 6 to 20 characters in the box provided.

Note that spaces are not allowed in the string of characters.
Provision the required parameters according to the work instructions.
Click Add at the bottom of the window.

Result:

A warning message appears stating that a reset is required before any SNMP provisioning changes take effect and that a reset causes all active login sessions to be logged out.

Proceed to Step 6.

Perform the following to MODIFY AN EXISTING USER:

Select Existing User in the SNMP User ID Panel.
In the drop-down box, select (highlight) the user to be modified.
Provision the required parameters according to the work instructions.
Click Modify at the bottom of the window.

Result:

A warning message appears stating that a reset is required before any SNMP provisioning changes take effect and that a reset causes all active login sessions to be logged out.

Proceed to Step 6.

Perform the following to DELETE AN EXISTING USER:

Select Existing User in the SNMP User ID Panel.
In the drop-down box, select (highlight) the user to be deleted.
Click Delete at the bottom of the window.

Result:

A warning message appears stating that a reset is required before any SNMP provisioning changes take effect and that a reset causes all active login sessions to be logged out.

Continue with Step 6.

Do you wish to perform additional SNMP V3 User provisioning?

If...	Then...
Yes	Click No on the warning window and then return to Step 1. Note: If you select to NOT reset in this procedure, you must perform a Phase 3 reset (Fault → Reset → System Controller) before your changes take place.
No	Continue with Step 7.

Click Yes in the warning window to complete your SNMP V3 provisioning.

Result:

The following warning message appears: The network element is resetting due to System Reset.

Click OK.

Result:

The System View closes, the network element resets, and all active users are disconnected.

A flashing b in the IND display on the SYSCTL indicates that a boot is in progress. During the boot, the b may extinguish for up to 20 seconds and then resume flashing.

If you want to view, print, or save a file of current SNMP users, then log back into the network element and select Administration → Security → View SNMP Users from the System View menu.
