Procedure 6-5.3: Provision Line timing mode with Output Timing

Important!

This is not a stand-alone procedure. Perform this procedure only as directed by Procedure 6-5: Network synchronization provisioning.

Steps

Complete the following steps to provision the network element Timing Mode to Line with output timing.

1

Important!

The AIS Threshold parameter for the timing output ports in this procedure will not work unless Sync Messaging is enabled on the associated OC-n/STM-n ports, although the NE will allow the user to change the parameter value. The AIS Threshold setting is the sync status message quality level which will generate AIS on the output ports.

To prevent AIS from being generated on the timing output ports, the sync status message level received from the optical interface synchronization source must be a higher quality than that set for the AIS Threshold.

To determine if Sync Messaging is enabled on the associated OC-n/STM-n port, select View → Timing/Sync from the System View menu, then select the Sync Message Status tab. SByte in the Type column indicates that sync messaging is enabled. If sync messaging is enabled, make a note of the Input Message levels for the associated OC-n/STM-n ports.

If required, select Configuration → Equipment to access the associated OC-n/STM-n port and enable the Sync Messaging parameter. Then select View → Timing/Sync, click on the Sync Message Status tab, and make a note of the Input Message level for the required OC-n/STM-n ports.

Procedure 4-4: Provision VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack and SONET/SDH ports for service

2

From the System View menu, select Configuration → Timing/Sync.

Result:

The Configure Timing/Sync window opens.

3

Select the System Timing tab.

4

From the Timing Mode drop-down menu, select Line.

5

For Output Timing, select Enabled.

With the Timing Mode set to Line, and Output Timing set to Enabled, the synchronization mode is set to Line SyncOut.

6

Important!

The sync status message level of the selected line must be higher than the AIS Threshold level setting in Step 9 to prevent AIS from being generated on the output ports.

It is recommended that Synchronization Autoreconfiguration be enabled to provide the most reliable network synchronization.

Provision the Clock Mode Switching, Reference Switching, Optical Synchronization Source, and Synchronization Autoreconfiguration parameters according to the work instructions.

If the system interface standard parameter is SDH, provision the External Synchronization Output - Source and Wait-to-Restore parameters according to the work instructions.

For more information about clock mode switching and reference switching, refer to Clock mode switching and Reference switching.

For more information about Synchronization Autoreconfiguration, refer to Synchronization autoreconfiguration.

7

If the faceplate and backplane Gigabit Ethernet ports of the VLNC52/55 SONET/SDH Transport circuit pack are required to support Synchronous Ethernet, select Enabled for Synchronous Ethernet.

8

Select the Timing Output Ports tab.

9

Important!

The AIS Threshold function for the timing output ports will not work unless Sync Messaging is enabled on the associated OC-n/STM-n port, although the NE will allow the user to change the AIS threshold value.

Provision the AIS Threshold, Output Format, and Timing Output Equalization parameters for the timing output reference signal according to the work instructions.

10

Click OK.

Result:

A warning message may appear. Click Yes to execute the command.
