Procedure 4-4: Provision VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack and SONET/SDH ports for service

- Overview

Use this procedure to provision the VLNC50/52/55 Main SONET/SDH ports for service.

- Privilege level

You must log in as a Privileged or General user to complete this procedure.

- Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure:

  1. Refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter.

  2. Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.

  3. Verify that the work instructions specify the SONET/SDH port and the parameters/values to be provisioned.

  4. Ensure that the required circuit pack is installed. If required, refer to Procedure 4-2: Install circuit pack in Main slot.

  5. Ensure that the required pluggable transmission modules are installed. If required, refer to Procedure 4-3: Install pluggable transmission modules.

Steps

Complete the following steps to provision a VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack and SONET/SDH ports for service.

From the System View window, click the Alarm List button to obtain an NE Alarm List. Verify that no alarms, loopbacks, protection switch lockouts, or protection switches are present for the ports to be provisioned.

From the System View window, select Configuration → Equipment.

Result:

The Configure Equipment window opens.

Click (highlight) the required CP Main circuit pack being provisioned, then click Select at the bottom of the window.

Result:

The circuit pack parameters appear.

Provision the required circuit pack parameters according to the work instructions, then click Apply if changes were made. If no changes were made, go to the next step.

Result:

Result: A dialog box appears asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes to apply the changes.

Click Close to exit or continue with the next step to provision a SONET/SDH port.

Expand the equipment list by clicking on the plus (+) sign next to the required CP Main circuit pack.

Click (highlight) the required SONET/SDH port being provisioned, then click Select at the bottom of the window.

Result:

The port parameters appear.

Select and provision the required port parameters according to the work instructions.

Important!

All the current parameter settings may be applied to both ports of the port pair, or only the parameter settings that changed may be applied to both ports of the port pair.

If required, select Port Pair in the Apply to: field to apply the current parameter settings to both ports of the port pair or only the parameter settings that changed.

Click Apply to make provisioning changes. If no changes were made, continue with the next step.

Result:

If Port Pair was selected in the Apply to: field, a dialog box appears asking if you want to apply all parameter settings on the screen. Click Yes or No as required.

A dialog box may appear asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes to apply changes.

If required, repeat Step 7 through Step 10 to provision the other SONET/SDH port; otherwise, click Close.

If required, change the circuit pack Slot Protection State parameter.
