The circuit pack Slot Protection State parameter must be provisioned Protected. If a VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack is inserted in the Main 2 slot and the circuit pack Slot Protection State parameter is Unprotected, the system reports an unexpected CP type alarm. To change the circuit pack Slot Protection State parameter refer to Procedure 4-10: Change slot protection state.
Any circuit pack that is otherwise allowed in this slot is allowed next to the VLNC64 circuit pack.
The VLNC64 circuit packs in Slot 1 and Slot 2 operate independently and are not equipment protected.
If installing a VLNC50/52/55 SONET/SDH Transport circuit pack, you must log in as a Privileged, General, Maintenance, or Reports Only user to complete this procedure.
In addition to the equipment listed in Required equipment, if loopbacks are to be performed, the following equipment is also required:
Refer to the list of Class 1 SFP transceivers that are approved by Alcatel-Lucent in Procedure 4-3: Install pluggable transmission modules.
Refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS-5) Installation and System Turn-Up Guide, as required, when removing and/or installing pluggable transmission modules.
Prior to performing this procedure:
Refer to Before you begin in this chapter.
Refer to Laser safety and Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.
Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.
If installing a VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack in the Main 2 slot, the circuit pack Slot Protection State parameter must be provisioned Protected.
Obtain the circuit pack to be installed. If required, obtain a 199MN apparatus blank for an unused Main slot, a 199SC apparatus blank for an unused CTL slot, and a 199SC apparatus blank for an unused C slot.
Complete the following steps to install the required circuit pack in a supported Main slot.
1 |
Determine the Main slot being equipped with the required circuit pack. Refer to Supported circuit pack configurations in the Main slots for more information about supported circuit pack configurations in the Main slots and compatible VLIU Interface Units.
2 |
Important! Signal performance may be degraded and the fiber interface surfaces damaged if the connections and couplings are not cleaned properly. Ensure all optical fiber connectors and couplings are properly cleaned. Reference: Procedure 14-3: Clean optical fibers, dual LC adapters and LC lightguide buildouts (LBOs)
3 |
Important! Pluggable transmission modules are shipped with a dust cover installed into the optical ports to maintain cleanliness during storage and/or transportation. It is recommended that the dust cover be kept in place to maintain cleanliness until the optical fiber is connected. With proper care and handling, cleaning the pluggable transmission modules should not be necessary. If required, clean the pluggable transmission modules. Reference: Procedure 14-19: Clean pluggable transmission module
4 |
Perform the following:
| ||||||||
5 |
Secure the circuit pack in the shelf using the latch lever. Result:
If responses are not correct, replace the circuit pack. Refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS-5) Maintenance and Trouble-Clearing Guide.
6 |
If required, install pluggable transmission modules. Reference: Procedure 4-3: Install pluggable transmission modules
7 |
Important! An apparatus blank must be installed in an unused Main, CTL, or C slot. If required, install a 199MN apparatus blank in an unused Main slot, a 199SC apparatus blank in an unused CTL slot, and a 199SC apparatus blank in the C slot.
8 |
Reference: For a detailed description of the Web-based GUI used to interface with the VLNC40/42/42B, VLNC60/61/62, and VLNC64 circuit packs and general information about using the Web-based GUI, refer to Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS-5) CLI User Provisioning Guide. For a detailed description of the Command Line Interface (CLI) messages used to interface with the VLNC40/42/42B, VLNC60/61/62, and VLNC64 circuit packs, and general information about using the Command Line Interface (CLI), refer to Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS-5) Command Line Interface Guide.
9 |
Test each optical port for proper operation.
Repeat this step for all optical ports being tested.
10 |
From the System View window, click the Alarm List button to obtain the NE Alarm List. Verify that no alarms, protection switches, protection switch lockouts, and loopbacks are present for the ports on the circuit pack just installed. Result: No alarms should be present for the circuit packs just installed.
11 |
If required at this time, provision the VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack/socket/port parameters. Reference:
| ||||||||
12 |
Important! For protected equipment operation, VLNC50/52/55 circuit packs are required in the Main 1 and Main 2 slots. For unprotected equipment operation, a VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack is required in the Main 1 slot only. If required, change the slot protection state to Protected and repeat this procedure to install the companion VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack in the Main 2 slot.
