Procedure 4-5: Provision VLNC50/52/55 DS1/E1 ports for service
Before you begin
Prior to performing this procedure:

Refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter.

Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.

Verify that the work instructions specify the port and the parameters/values to be provisioned.

Ensure that the circuit pack is installed. If required, refer to Procedure 4-2: Install circuit pack in Main slot.
Steps
Complete the following steps to provision the VLNC50/52/55 DS1/E1 ports for service.

From the System View window, click the Alarm List button to obtain an NE Alarm List. Verify that no alarms, loopbacks, protection switch lockouts, or protection switches are present for the ports to be provisioned. | ||||||

From the System View menu, select Configuration → Equipment. Result: The Configure Equipment window opens. | ||||||

Click (highlight) the DS1/E1 port being provisioned, then click Select at the bottom of the window. Result: The port parameters appear. | ||||||

Important! The VLNC50 circuit pack has 8 DS1 framers, and the VLNC52/55 circuit pack has 28 DS1 framers. The DS1 framers are shared between the A-group DS1 ports and the channelized b-3 DS3 port. Each DS1 framer may be assigned to either the A-group DS1 port or the channelized b-3 DS3 port. To assign a DS1 framer to the A-group DS1 port, the corresponding A-group DS1 port Port Mode parameter must be provisioned AVAIL (available) (default). To assign a DS1 framer to the channelized b-3 DS3 port, the corresponding A-group DS1 port Port Mode parameter must be provisioned UNAVAIL (unavailable). Select and provision the required port parameters according to the work instructions. | ||||||

Important! The parameter settings may be applied to the selected port only or all ports on the circuit pack. Select This Port or All Ports, This Pack in the Apply to: field according to the work instructions. | ||||||

Click Apply to make provisioning changes. If no changes were made, continue with next step. Result: If All Ports, This Pack was selected in the Apply to: field, a dialog box appears asking if you want to apply all parameter settings on the screen. Click Yes or No as required. A dialog box may appear asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes to apply changes. | ||||||

If required, repeat Step 3 through Step 7 to provision another DS1/E1 port; otherwise, click Close. End of steps |
