Use this procedure to test a DS1/E1 or DS3/E3 port at a stand-alone Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 shelf or in a Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 network.
If this procedure is being used to perform end-to-end testing in a Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 network, it is assumed that the complete Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 network configuration (for example, UPSR/SNCP) has already been established/tested and that only a particular port is being tested at this time.
In end-to-end testing, one shelf is referred to as the near end and the other shelf as the far end. These designations are arbitrary; either shelf can be the near-end or the far-end shelf.
You must log in as either a Privileged or General user to complete this procedure.
In addition to the equipment listed in Required equipment, a DS1/E1/DS3/E3 Test Set is required.
Prior to performing this procedure:
Refer Before you begin in this chapter.
Refer to Laser safety and Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.
Obtain the work instructions for this procedure and note the assigned AIDs.
Select View → Equipment to access the required port and verify that the port parameters have been provisioned correctly (according to the work instructions) at the terminating Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 shelf(s) of the circuit being tested.
If required, select Configuration → Equipment to make port provisioning changes.
Refer to the following procedures for more detailed information.Complete the following steps to perform a DS1/E1/DS3/E3 transmission test.

Important! Proper terminating and pass-through cross-connections must exist at each shelf (including stand-alone shelves) to establish continuity for the circuit being tested. Select View → Cross-Connections to obtain a cross-connection list and verify that the proper cross-connections exist for the circuit to be tested. If required, select Configuration → Cross-Connections to access the Cross-Connection Wizard and create the proper VT1.5/STS-n/VC-n cross-connections for the DS1/E1/DS3/E3 circuit to be tested. Select Configuration → Update System → Update All to retire existing alarms caused by this procedure.
9 |
If required, repeat Step 1 through Step 8 for each DS1/E1/DS3/E3 circuit to be tested.
10 |
STOP! End of Procedure.
11 |
At the near end, disconnect the test set from the cross-connect panel or equivalent connection point, if required.
12 |
At the near end and far end, delete any cross-connections entered to perform this procedure. Reference:
13 |
At the far end, remove the patch cords at the cross-connect panel or equivalent connection point for the circuit under test.
14 |
At the near end and far end, select Configuration → Update System → Update All to retire existing alarms caused by this procedure.
15 |
If required, return to Step 1 and repeat this procedure for each DS1/E1/DS3/E3 circuit to be tested.
